Google to shutter Buzz, focus on Google+

Services

Google announced on Friday that it is shutting down a number of properties in the coming months, the most notable of which is likely its failed social network, Google Buzz. Best known as that annoying thing under “Inbox” in Gmail, Google Buzz was a Twitter-like service that never gained traction. Buzz encouraged users to share status updates, photos and more that could then be viewed by friends in real time, however it offered no compelling features compared to already established services such as Facebook and Twitter. Google will also shutter several additional services in the near future, including Jaiku, a social network the company acquired in 2007, and Code search, a tool that helped programmers search for open source code. Google Buzz will shut down in the coming weeks while Jaiku and Code Search will both go offline on January 15th, 2012 along with a few other seldom-used Google services.

Hmm just like how Google+ offers no compelling features over Facebook or even MySpace.

I check my Google+ once a month and it appears everyone in my “circles” does even less than that. Complete failure.

I think Google+ wants you to create circle jerks on their site.

I signed up for Google+.  What can you do on it?  It’s so boring.  It’s like a really bad version of LinkedIn (which is good).

    Whatever happened to Google TV?

    • Anonymous

You can still watch it with your
Apple TV. Of course, you need wi-fi with that.

Ironically, if Facebook started a search engine it would probably be successful since people would just search straight from their pages

Wrong. Don’t forget about Gmail, AdWords, AdSense, Docs, Blogger, YouTube, and others. They just suck at social networking.

POS needs to go in the garbage with that ugly azz motoblur and HTC sense
UI or at least donate the money there using to code this POS towards

me and my friends have started using Google+…but after using it for a week or so..we still find facebook more addictive..

  • homescrub

I can’t even concentrate on Google+.  Its dead.

  • Bringit

Another big fat FAIL for Google.  Android will die a similar death.

  • Amyours

It took them so long to can Buzz because they had forgotten about it. Better to launch less services and do a better follow-up, promotion, integration, affiliation, openness, etc. Buzz would make a heck of a beer name if they want to monetize further. ;)
