“**All Chromebook Series 5 3G models include up to 100MB per month of Mobile Broadband service included with device for 2 years, provided by Verizon. Also available are an unlimited day pass for just $9.99 and pay-as-you-go rates that don’t require any long-term contracts.”
Haha, 100MB for a Laptop? Is that a joke? Or you can pay $10 per day for unlimited…wtf

No man, the DROID OS computers are the most powerful ever. I would have thought that you would know that.

        Oh crap…  Touché!

So $499 + $240 (unlimited Data 2 yrs) =  $739 * 1.13 (HST) = $835.07 owning cost for 2 years. Not really a good deal and if it’s Intel dual core Atom processor, it just sucks then.

The Samsung Chromebook will be $50 cheaper in a couple of weeks. But I see the Acer Chromebook will be $150 cheaper, and it comes with an HDMI port, while Samsung’s does not.

Ii like the acer better, i read we’ll be able to pay mnthly $20 w/.edu email and $30 w/o

Am I the only one who is not excited by Chrome?

  • Jon

Gilt is marketing at it’s best. There is nothing exclusive about it, only pressure to make impulse buys before this shit you think you may want sells out literally 6 seconds after the sale begins.

Me personally, I’m going to wait til version 2.0 or version 1.1
Been burned too many times by version 1.0 devices ;)

      The cr-48 was version 1

You know, I was expecting a free offer to try out the new final release to the chromebook. My hopes were crushed by the $499 sign. Oh well. I’d consider it, but I’m a student. I can’t afford that now.

  • bigbudha

    $499 really, i can get a i3 windows7 for $399.

Also w/ .edu email theyll be rent to own them, $20 a mnth, even if yu graduated it may still be functional email, most colleges dont delete alumni .edu email address.

I can’t see any reason why this isn’t, atmost, $299.

I just wanted to check it out, I got the e-mail 4 hours after it started also, site’s been down ever since for me.

Guys save your money.  I had a CR-48.  I was bored after about 10 mins.  Why pay $499 for a crippled netbook when you can get a full blown notebook.  Just doesn’t make sense.

    • Michael

Nope makes zero sense. Should have put Android on there. ‘M still confused how they came up with this price point. Very small hard drive, no ethernet port, really nothing to it. Should cost $150 to make.
