T-Mobile increases price of G2x due to ‘inventory constraints’

mobile

Last week T-Mobile said that the high demand for the G2x had resulted in “inventory constraints,”and that it was working with LG to get the device back on shelves as quickly as possible. As a result of those constraints, however, the carrier has increased the price of the G2x to $249.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate —a $50 boost from its debut price of $199. Hopefully T-Mobile drops the cost back down after LG increases its production volume, but the carrier has given no indication that will be the case.

That’s one way to get people to go to sprint for cheaper powerful phones.

how can they do this, wouldnt tht be considered price gouging?  when the kinect was sold out they didnt raise the price, same thing with the icrap and any product really.  way to go t-mo…..

But that’s capitalism. Supply and demand sets the price.

Anyone get the feeling TMobile is already being run by AT&T?

    • wanghanglo

no not really, when have u seen at&t do somethin like this?  ppl dont even make sense up here half the time

      • Anonymous

Sure it makes sense. Tmobile has already gradually raised the prices of their plans. That way AT&T can say that they will continue the existent cheaper pricing of t mobile …but since they may experience more setbacks to the merger they need to limit tmobile growth in the time being.

Seriously, no one does this unless they want to destroy their own brand. It doesn’t matter if there is an excuse. It looks bad. Your company is not value or customer oriented. Your tmobile CEO managers didn’t discuss these things beforehand? At best you are a Scrooge, at worst you are inept.

who said anything about rate plans?  the article is about them raising the price of a phone and thats what i was referring to.  i love how ppl online try to act so smart and superior….but i am a scrooge and u are a douche

      • Anonymous

its funny because prices just dropped on rate plans

T-Mo is trying to commit suicide I think. Maybe if they play dead and become really worthless, the FCC will approve their ATT deal.

It’s no suprise really,  Tmobile wants to get rid of their “ghetto” carrier reputation and this is a good way of removing the low income thugs that frequent T-mobile stores.

So many bashing comments here… Have any of you taken Economics before? It’s basic Supply and Demand. Supply starts to lag, price goes up to conserve quantity. Demand will decrease. The supplier will then be able to generate more supply and move the price back down when enough is made.

Has nothing to do with ATT… Nothing to do with repelling potential customers… Goodness, and I thought religious zealots were bad…

I’m surprised they didn’t just end the rebate.

People love the “idea” of capitalism, but don’t like it when it bites them.

The T-MobileUSA G2X has known buggy hardware issues, and TmobileUSA jack the price.  Sounds like they’ll be promoting it soon to say, “Look, its on sale $50 off…”

Peeps can get the AT&T Samsung Infuse 4.5″ Android for only $149, and T-MobileUSA thinks they’ll sell this buggy older smaller screened mobile for how much?

hasnt this phone been having some problems like randomly resetting, sounds like they should lower the price not up the price.
