T-Mobile working on G2x software fix, Gingerbread coming by summer

mobile

Earlier this week TmoNews suggested that T-Mobile may have started to pull the G2x from store shelves due to performance issues. T-Mobile confirmed with BGR on Wednesday that the unit was simply missing from shelves due to “high demand” and “inventory constraints.” However, PCMag is now reporting that T-Mobile may also be working on a software fix for some G2x after some customers have reported random restarts and shutdowns. “Customer satisfaction for the G2x has been high,” T-Mobile said. “As with any new device, a small percentage of customers have commented about possible improvements and we are working with LG to deliver a software update, which we expect to offer some performance issues.” T-Mobile may issue this fix at the same time it rolls out its planned Android Gingerbread update, which the carrier announced will occur sometime before summer.

    Being an android super power user for Google I was allowed access to some insider info… The fix is actually to just leave tmobiles ghetto ass network and crappy devices.

      I have been with Verizon and AT&T, neither IMO can compare to the quality and speeds that T-Mobile supplies. If you happen to be lucky enough and have LTE coverage with Verizon which I do, the battery level drops faster then a lead weight. Was getting about 12 mb down on Verizon, great speeds, getting over 7 mb download on T-Mobile all day every day and my user experience is much better. Great battery use and I can use the best device still out there, My trusty Nexus One rooted with CyanogenMod 7. You can’t beat that with a stick. T-Mobile is the best Network out of them all. The buyout is not going thru.

        A nexus one isn’t getting this download speeds consistently on t-mobile. People choose att and Verizon because their data and voice coverage is twice that odd t-mobile.

      That’s funny if you were a real android power user you would see that tmobile actually has the most unique and biggest variety of android devices of all the carriers. Least amount of bloatware, least locked down devices, actually vanilla android on some handsets, etc.
      And if you actually live in a city that matters, not in the middle of nowhere then tmobile has great coverage most times beating the other guys speed.
      verizon- good coverage, but @ shitty outdated full of bloatware devices. Also lol@ bing on some of them.
      Rape you in the ass plans and overages.
      Sprint- lol@ having 1 phone a year worth a damn.
      AT&T- locked down devices. High ass plans and overage fees. dropped calls
      Poor customer service.

    LG = garbage

       Yup. I haven’t seen a decent LG since the old slider Shine. No surprise that even a ‘flagship’ phone from them does the ubiquitous random shut-down trick. LG definitely makes garbage.

      LG = The best
      There I also made a  stupid statement just like you did

    My wife and I each had a g2x for two weeks, they shut every 5 – 10 minutes.

      I love my g2x had it from the first day it launched. They mass produce products especially technology…. ur bound to get a few lemons.

    Soo much for that Tweet from T-Mobile back in April about Gingerbread coming soon.

      For an Android update, three months is soon. It’s more like “no, seriously, we promise, it’s coming” and then you root, buy a new phone, or just give up and die of old age.

        Definitely gave up

    Mine doesn’t have many problems, but I’d see what will the 2.3 improvement be.

    I’ve had my G2x for 3 days (perhaps I got it from a new shipment) – it’s my first android phone, and thus far it is flawless.  4g all the time – Took phone off the charger at 830am.  It’s now 505pm and I’m at 46 pct.  Ive browsed, facebooked, played some need for speed while in the men’s room, downloaded an upgrade to google maps – handful of messages, and some email.  So i’m USING it.  It hasn’t shut off, dropped a call, or been otherwise messy.  Generally – i get hosed on all my phone choices.  My last one – was the HD2 – the worst phone i’ve ever owned, and I kept it for 14 months.   I get that “some” people are having issues – but 3 days in, i certainly am not.
    And for people bitching about battery life – how about simply turning off widgets which constantly ping the internet.  Really – while sitting at your desk, you NEED on the fly facebook, map, gps and weather updates?  I turn mine on when I leave the office – turn them off when I get back.
    Sorry for the folks with hardware issues – but i love this phone.

      I’ve had this phone for nearly a month now – I’ve returned it twice due to tethering issues – and I am a heavy power user – I came from blackberry and was used to having my phone for well over 8 hours before I needed to even think about a recharge. Not so with this whore of a phone – It drains the battery faster than Donald Trump can take credit for EVERYTHING. Just today I had it plugged up to the charger (which all android users are slave to) and it restarted twice… then just shut down completely. I did everything from taking the battery out to letting it charge for over 20 minutes only to call CS and have them ship me a new one. The phone itself is OK, but I’m going to go ahead and get the HTC sensation – if I’m going to get a battery draining monster, I might as well get the best one out on the market.

    I got a big problem with my g2x!!!! When I try to turn it on the only thing that shows on the display it’s a loading bar. It would be fine if wasn’t loading ALL THE TIME.((((( It doesn’t work at all.
