Apple’s App Store now home to over 500,000 apps

mobile

According to new data from Chop, 148apps, and Chillingo, Apple’s iTunes App Store has approved more than 500,00 applications. In an infographic posted on Facebook, the group notes that Apple has worked with 85,569 different developers and that the average price of a paid application is $3.64. Similarly, 37% of all applications are free. The most popular iTunes categories (ranked by downloads), are games (15%), books (14%), entertainment (11%), education (8%), lifestyle (7%), and utilities (6%). If it seems like Angry Birds has been a hit for nearly a year, that’s because it spent 275 days in the No. 1 spot. Apple has yet to confirm these figures and App Shopper, another third-party that monitors the App Store, currently says there are about 499,200 live applications in the store. We expect to hear more on the matter during Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference when it kicks off on June 6th.

and some analyst said the Market was going to surpass the AppStore by the end of the summer… LOL! that boy sure was a fAndroid
and these are 500.000 real apps, not live backgrounds or keyboard skins like on the Market

Same thing I thought when I first heard about this.  lol.

    • TOMMMMMM

At least Android users CAN download live backgrounds and keyboard skins and aren’t restricted to a 4×4 grid of square icons.

Live backgrounds or battery life hhhmmmm. And keyboard skins what are you 10 years old. I bet you still play with G.I. joes

    • Broughtit

Didn’t apple have to step in recently and say “We have enough fart apps”?

    • Booboolala2000

Until apple confirms it, this is just speculation. Sounds like you are jealous about live wallpapers and custom themes and keyboard skins. They are more full apps than say, words with friends. They do more. Sorry you have no personalization available to you. Enjoy your app launcher.

i can get video wallpapers and keyboards skin if i jailbreak my iPhone so no, im not jealous at all…

This is the usual excuse from both sides:
By hacking phone X I can make it do stuff phone Y does stock (and vice versa)
Thing is, android phones can do it without hacking stuff apart. The iPhone can’t.

holy camoly! that’s a lot of apps

    • Anonymous

Don’t be amazed, 90% of which are useless apps.

      • Zac Caslin

Jealous Bastards are at an all time high today.

      • Sarah

And jealousy rears its ugly head. LMAO.

  • Bobdonhim

450,000 arent apps.  The Billy Mayes soundboard is NOT an app.  The 20,000 fart apps are not REAL apps!

    • Rob

Yes they are. Just because you, or I for that matter, don’t care for them, they are still apps.

  • Anonymous

How many are fart apps? 450000?

This is how you know BGR LOVES APPLE. Many people skim through the articles just reading the titles. If everyone did that, well, everyone would think apple had 500,000 apps in their app store, which is NOT the case. Apple has approved 500,000 apps. Most of which are games/theme/noises etc. Apple’s app store right now is floating in and around 300,000 with about 290,000 of them being useless.

  • Zac Caslin

I hate apple so much i’m going to troll and comment on everyone. Stupid Fandroids.

  • Booboolala2000

If there are so many apps, why not have a filter for Apple preferred apps.? That way you can cut out the 499,000 useless ones.

    • rob

thats the way the app store works. when searching for an app, the most popular ones show up first and the crappy ones get buried.

  • Bringit

Changed my mind, I love wp7.

  • QNX Please

    Apple counts books as apps?

  • Anonymous

Well then, the choice is clear…..I must download all of them. My life will then be complete.

Apples app store has it’s share of shit apps and Googles app store also has it’s share of shit apps. I wish all you iFags and Fanwhores would just learn to get along. You people have so much in common. For instance you all like to swill the cool aid and take it hard in the ass from the rich and ignorant. I don’t understand the hate, considering you all have the IQ of a shoe you should all be happily getting along.

  • anonymous1

judging by the previous comments, when you buy an iphone your not just buying a phone. Your buying the illusion that everyone will now be jealous of you, and that your better than everyone else. (except the millions of other suckers buying into apples marketing machine)… @ Zac Caslin If apple told you to jump off a bridge, i bet you’d do it. especially if there was a free iphone in it if you survive :-)

  • Sarah

Everyone knows that iPhone and iPad are WAY cooler and more functional than Android or any other “tablet” phones or computers. Apple’s engineers should win a Nobel Prize, and that’s not even exaggerating. All the haters know this, and they will hold onto any argument they can in order to keep themselves from looking like clones.

  • Droidman101

Wait, wait wait….BOOKS count as APPS?????

    • http://twitter.com/mistercarter7 Mike Gonzalez

      no they dont
