Confirmed: Sprint getting Motorola XOOM with WiMAX

Exclusive

We exclusively reported Sprint would be getting an identical version of the Motorola XOOM sans LTE and adding a WiMAX radio, and we now have received a second confirmation β€” cases for the Motorola XOOM just started showing up at Sprint stores nationwide. No word on availability of the Motorola XOOM, but we’d anticipate it peeking it’s head up pretty soon.

Thanks, Adam!

I recently returned my Verizon Xoom because of the Data cap. If sprint is truly unlimited, I am definitely lining up for one.

You mean the line for the cash register I assume, since no one is lining up to purchase the Xoom.

Get a life bro did Moto shoot your puppy or something?

      • Anonymous

Why so sensitive? You work for Motorola or something?

When sprint says unlimited…. They are referring to the phone Internet plans…. Data only devices are sold in buckets…. The 4g part should be unlimited though…. I can’t wait!

I’m really happy to hear even those not lucky enough to be on Verizon will be able to enjoy a Droid tablet like the Xoom 4G. I wonder if their version comes with the send in for a week to get 4G feature?

    • Anonymous

I fully expect it to come pre-loaded…. While Verizon’s 4g network may not be ready to support data heavy devices like the xoom, sprints wimax network was build to handle the heavy load and its also available in twice as many areas….

Lol. Verizon’s network is just fine. If that were the issue they would have merely disabled LTE in the software. Given tha it needs a hardware upgrade. Clearly theronlem is on Motorola s end. They could not get the hardware ready to, ake Verizon’s launch timetable.

damn it, i thought it’s going to cost $44.99!!

    • Anonymous

      That would be awesome…. Lol

Remember when you said the Sprint Xoom was going to be announced at CTIA?

    • http://www.bgr.com Jonathan Geller

Yeah! Everything I said was spot on product-wise, though it wasn’t announced at CTIA. Doesn’t mean the product wasn’t coming, and it obviously is.

    • Anonymous

They jumped on that. The other blogs who got the scoop said it would get their own event. So yea, as usual BGR tends to jump to conclusions without knowing what they’re talking about.

This is perfect. When a product isn’t selling on Verizon, the smart thing to do is to release it on Sprint. That’ll do the trick.

    • Jroc869

so what your saying is, if its not selling on verizon then just dont sell it anywhere else. good strategy

      • Anonymous

Since you clearly missed my point, I’ll spell it out for you.

One, not all carriers are created equal. Adding Sprint isn’t like adding AT&T; Sprint’s subscriber base is relatively small, so the potential customers added by extending your product to Sprint is minimal.

Two, my argument wasn’t against adding Sprint; it was against adding Sprint as a sole corrective action. Had the story claimed that Motorola was adding Sprint plus some kind of price cut, then that would be a a strategy change. Instead, what Moto has done here is added a small new group of consumers to the mix of people currently ignoring the Xoom.

      • Jroc869

who said it was a corrective action. Im sure they had hopes on launching for both carriers before the xoom even launched. of course they need a price cut, that and only that will help this thing sell. when that price gets cut it will be available on two carriers instead of one so they will be ready to move some product. Not only that, but sprints prices being somewhat cheaper means that more people would be tempted to add that extra device to their data plan. I know when i was with verizon i was already paying so much, there was no way i could add a xoom. with sprint and the money im saving i can justify picking one up now.

“Sprint’s subscriber base is relatively small” – about 50 million subscribers is NOT small. Sprint is a major carrier and practically everyone has a cell phone….

Keep to the comment section your business sense is lacking.. Lmao at small group of customers you cant be serious..

I love how in Google Reader only like one person “likes” Xoom related posts… probably the one guy that bought one.

I have a wifi xoom. I generally like it over my wife’s iPad 2. It’s faster, the menus are nicer and much more appealing (yay widgets!) and the google integration for gmail, maps, voice, earth, etc. is first rate. My wife’s iPad 2 is noticeably lighter and easier to carry for long periods, especially while reading in bed or anywhere where the tablet is not resting on a table or desk. I may return mine for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 when it comes out (hurray Costco!), but overall Honeycomb is far superior to whatever itineration of iOS is running on the iPad 2.

A wifi only Xoom? I didn’t know they were available yet. What country do you live in?

      • Jroc869

they have been available for a couple weeks now in the US

      • Anonymous

Yeah they’ve been available for a couple weeks, but since no one is buying, most people are unaware of the wi-fi only Xoom. This is yet another marketing failure for Motorola.

‘My wife’s iPad 2 is noticeably lighter and easier to carry for long periods’ because: it’s one big loooooong PeriOd.

  • Anonymous

    how about that atrix?

  • Anonymous

This is great for Sprint and for Verizon, too. The only tablet worth having.

Any word on the XOOOOOOOOM GSM?? That’s the one I’m holding out for [dangle preposition].

How do these picture confirm anything? lol

    • sprintguy

I have personally seen the case come in yesterday at my store and im amazed by how thin and small it is – i was told a late april early may launch is expected for sprint. in others news the bb playbook is coming out real soon to sprint first(wifi version) then later this summer a 4g verison.

      • http://www.briefmobile.com Korey Nicholson

I work for Sprint too, we haven’t received these at all yet.

… so, we need just a nice price for the xoom, moto. come on.
