Apple Store goes down ahead of iPad 2 announcement

Like clockwork, Apple’s online store has been brought down as the team in Cupertino prepares the new pages tablet fans around the world having been waiting for. The Apple Store went down shortly after 10:00AM ET, and we don’t expect it to come back up until shortly after 1:00PM when Apple finally lets the cat out of the bag — not that’s it has really been in the bag for the past few months.     Ok, it’s 10:51am; the next 9 stories are going to be about Apple’s much anticipated announcement, here’s the breakdown:

    2 stories preceding the announcement

    1 story when WHOMEVER introduces Jobs

    1 story when Jobs takes the stage

    0 stories when Jobs is speaking (because your mouths will be wide open and your digits will be busy)

    1 story when Jobs gets off stage (after you guys kill a box of Kleenex [each]

    2 stories after the announcement

    1 individual story of how the brand new ground breaking iPad 2 has the sleep / power on/off button in the perfect spot

    1 last story late tonight summarizing Apple’s iPad 2 Event

    Oh, and one tomorrow morning about iPad 3.

      If you think there will only be 1 summary story on Apple’s event you’re crazy. And, only 1 story on the new sleep button placement? More like 4. “This is why we love the new sleep/power button” “The Sleep/Power Button: Why the competition won’t catch up” …..etc

    Do you know of any other tech company that needs to take their entire online store offline to update it for a new product? Talk about inefficient.

      Exactly, it’s great marketing, it’s like Truck Day for the Red Sox, they make a huge deal about the truck leaving from Fenway Park to spring training, it’s on all the news stations, they have music, it’s a celebration and everyone knows it’s the kick off of spring training, totally not needed yet great marketing.

    Ahhh apple announcement day. The day when BGR employees dress extra nice while readying the champagne, and fanboys everywhere ready themselves for a device that will change everything forever.

    Walked by the Apple Store at 10:30PM last night here in center city Philadelphia and they were getting a major shipment in. My guess is you will be able to purchase these today.

    What does Apple need to try to sell more? That the Ipad2 is better than the XOOM or the IPAD2 is a big enough upgrade over the ipad to justify people buying another?
