Samsung teases next Galaxy S [video]

mobile

We know the next generation of Samsung’s Galaxy S handset, being referred to as the Galaxy S2, is due to drop at Mobile World Congress in just two weeks. We assume the device will sport Samsung’s new Super AMOLED Plus display and a more current processor offering. What we don’t know is exactly what the device will look like… until now. In a short teaser video, Sammy gives us a quick look at the profile of the next generation Gally S. What can we surmise from the video? Not much, other than the device is going to be incredibly thin… like really thin. You don’t have to take our word for it, the clip is waiting for you after the break. Enjoy.

After seeing how Samsung’s products were handled in the US marketplace (Captivate, Vibrant, Fascinate, Epic) … you’d have to be a total idiot to buy any more Samsung Android-based product in the US.

I’m a totally disappointed owner of *3* at&t Captivates. Can’t wait until enough time has passed that the ETF fees won’t kill me… so I can get rid of them.

You know whats so funny, Samsung sold a lot of android phones last year….
I was strongly looking at upgrading from my HTC Incredible which I didn’t even have that long…
I liked the hardware, but I thought I would wait for 2.2 to come out…
      I’m so damn glad I did, sh!t…
Anyway to get to my point, I seen so many people buy this phone. For most it was their first Android phone; upgrading from blackberries and dumb phones.
I just hope these people don’t make the same misstake again…

I’m totally there with you. The captivate was probably the most disappointing electronics purchase I have ever made – no android updates, crap gps, and slooooooow. I couldn’t take another 1.5 years of it so I just paid ATT the ETF. I’m surprised that most reviews of the phone seem positive. Maybe I just had a bad experience.

      • http://dossy.org/ Dossy Shiobara

Most people who write reviews just want the search traffic and affiliate link clickthrus. Reviewers don’t have to live with the product 24×7 for 2 years. They might use the product for an hour, long enough to take a handful of pictures and screenshots.

I’d pay the ETF but since we have *3* handsets, it’s a bit steep. I’ll wait 6-9 more months until the ETF is low enough to make it tolerable.

yeah yeah yeah……been there done that…..never again will i buy a samsung phone and here is warning for all the newbies and crazy phandroids in denial:
this is the same story of galaxy s all over again:
1-big hype and ad campaign for the phone with big specs. 2-claims of better touchwiz 3-promise to update to new version of the os……and yet the truth will be 1-wacky gps. 2-terrible touchwiz ruining android. 3-no updates what so ever……

Ok boys and girls. What did we learn a couple months ago? Yes, that is correct Samsung is awful at any type of customer support.

  • http://twitter.com/mcbessey Mark Bessey

They forgot the 1,000,001 secret in the world — when will AT&T and Verizon release froyo for their last best effort?

  • stranger99

How about make it no so super thin and put an f’n battery in it that can last a day?

    • lolcat

My fascinate routinely lasts a day and it is not uncommon for me to get 36-48 hours of battery life from it. I use the stock POS software.

  • Dario69

I would like to see one tech blogger, one real journalist hold Samsung accountable regarding their pathetic update path for their Android phones. I mean corner a Samsung rep and ask them point blank how they could promise an update right when the first Galaxy S phone was released and then never deliver? And then to have to arrogance to say these new devices are “upgradable”? I know better to expect a phone will be guaranteed an OS update but Sammy was put on record to provide one. They basically lied to sell more phones. Yes, it happens all the time but this one was so blatant.

  • Quailallstar

You all sound like a whiny bunch of little girls (AKA: Bitches) lol; all this over a freaking phone.

    • Anonymous

What else are they supposed to be commenting on? A Droid? Samsung sucks at customer support, service, and device firmware upgrades period. If you feel differently you have to be a Samsung employee. I doubt you’ll find many true Samsung fanboi’s.

  • serpentor

Sammy should just make it clear their phones are sold as is.

  • TiredOfPeople

Get a life people. All this bitching about Samsung not upgrading you from 2.1 to 2.2??? For real? Why do you want 2.2??? Give me 3 ground breaking differences between 2.1 and 2.2 that warrants all this “dissatisfaction”.

    • Maverick777

      1. Native exchange support
      2. Flash support
      3. Highmem support (for phones with more than 256mb of memory)

      • TUPAPI

@maverick777 thansk for shutting this idiot up. He/She/It? obviously has never used an Android. Every update is critical! it fixes performance, battery life, stability etc.. Wait. another 3 “ground breaking” reasons why to upgrade to 2.2.. Troll.

    • Chris

      Wow, you’re dumb.

    • Anonymous

Whether the differences are groundbreaking or not, if a software upgrade is available, of course you want it. Have you ever even used Android? Because if you did, you would realize that bitching about Samsung not upgrading their software is completely valid and understandable. But if you really really used Android you would already have rooted your Samsung and flashed 2.2 a while ago.

    • sway40

way better battery life, are you retarded

    • sway40

I have an evo running gingerbread, so i would know bc we got updated to froyo a long time ago and gingerbread is pretty cool too, my girl has an epic and the battery is horrible so bring on the froyo its better battery is just one of the better things other than flash etc……

  • Sammy Fan

I am a huge fan of all Samsung products, not to mention an Android fanatic. Seeing this phone I got half a stock, then quickly lost it remembering that Samsung does not update their devices after release. I want but I shall pass.

I think you have screwed yourself out of a lot of future sales because of your inability to keep your current customers happy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bela.goblos Bela Goblos

Yeah, I own several Samsung phones, which got stuck at various Android versions.
Samsung never released any upgrades, and Captivate does not have 2.2 even after more than a year.
I will never ever buy a samsung product again.
They can take their new phone, and shove it where the sun dont shine.
    Sticking with my iPhone 4.

    • lolcat

While I am not going to defend samsungs lack of updates. The captivate has not been out for a year….

      • http://www.facebook.com/bela.goblos Bela Goblos

2.2 has been out for more than a year..

  • 404-not_found

    Shipping with 2.1?

  • http://www.saldistefano.com/ saldistefano

This is all wonderful but will the GPS work? I had a Vibrant on day one and after suffering with the GPS issues and a poor response form Samsung, I returned the phone.

  • Dude

that better not come with froyo… gingerbread or ice cream sandwich

  • Jobcel Isaac Gacura

Umm name a phone other than the Nexus S with official Android 2.3 updates that HAVE been released? none..

Why is it that Canada, Europe and Asia all have Android 2.2 and 2.2.1 on their Galaxy S.. Does it still not compute? Is Samsung at fault?.. read up will you, its your CARRIERS and their exclusivity contracts that Samsung has signed with them therefore leaving the decisions up to the carrier not Samsung..

BTW Canada has other variants of the Galaxy S too, the Vibrant, Captivate and Fascinate and all now have 2.2..

  • Anonymous

What’s the point of Samsung making another Tablet when their first one never got 2.2 or 2.3 update? kinda dumb if you ask me and a waist of money. seems like their newer version probably won’t get Honeycomb. Which is why Motorola RULES.

  • Buckeye

Samsung made a huge deal out of how, in consumers interest, they were releasing the 2.2 upgrade for the T-mobile Vibrant after all the horsing around they’ve done with it for months. What they forgot to mention is that the upgrade will not work if your PC has current OS on it – i.e. will not work w/ Windows 7 and 64 bit. When I asked the Samsung USA rep if they were going to release a fix, I was told that I should find a PC that’s running XP or Vista in 32 bit or try to root the phone! I pray that TM releases the LG Optimus 2x soon ’cause I’m going to jump all over that phone – never, ever, NEVER, EVER again will I buy ANYTHING Samsung makes- especially a phone. Dear Samsung – you royally screwed this mess up and I hope NOBODY is dumb enough to think a leopard will change it’s stripes – seems you will always be 1-2 steps behind technology so you can convince the stupid customer to but an interim product to get one step closer to the rest of the world.

  • Anonymous

I don’t care how nice the galaxy s2 looks. I have an epic and will never buy another Samsung phone again. I’m going back to HTC or I would consider Motorola, if Sprint ever gets an android Moto phone.

  • Petey

Haha, I will not longer support Samsung phone anymore. Ridiculous how much pushing around we had in order to get Froyo onto our phone!

They have great phones and all, but if they’re not going to stand behind their phones and only wanting to buy more phones of theirs instead of updating it, Then no more samsung for me. Now, I wonder what’s going happen with LG… are they going be like Samsung?

    No

    Now,

  • 1T2dirtnap

It’s funny how some people still claim it’s the carrier and not Samsung holding back 2.2. Yet from Samsungs own words they clearly state THEY Samsung controls weather 2.2 is released to US Galaxy S owners.

“Samsung feels it is important to make the Android 2.2/Froyo upgrade available only after we feel that we can give the millions of U.S. Galaxy S owners a simple and reliable upgrade experience. Due to the complexity and unique functionality of each Galaxy S device, we are performing additional testing and are working to make the Android 2.2/Froyo upgrade available to all U.S. Galaxy S owners, including the Samsung Vibrant, as soon as possible.”

So you guys should all stop already, it’s Samsung holding back Froyo.

If only they would put a flash on T-Mobile’s model, I can’t for the life of me imagine why they would leave something like this off when it’s so basic.

  • Alexander530

I think it will look sleek.

  • zps

anyone who was suckered into the first gen galaxy S or tab will run like the wind from this product. shudder…seriously.

  • James

    Android phones are awsome

  • James

Android 3.0 will be compatible with Galexy S?
