HTC EVO Shift 4G shown off on video

mobile

Gaming Google isn’t just for hard up magazine publishers anymore, as cell phone retailer Wirefly tries to milk as much search traffic as possible with its new “HTC Evo Shift Review.” Coinciding with Sprint’s announcement earlier this morning, Wirefly has issued a lengthy video showcasing the new EVO Shift 4G. Available on YouTube in full 1080p HD, the video does a good job of going over the EVO Shift’s hardware and software. It also shows the device next to the original EVO 4G and a Motorola DROID 2 for size comparisons, and displays the impressive results of a benchmark test. The video doesn’t offer much in the way of revelations considering the extensive leaks leading up to the Shift’s announcement, however, but it never hurts to enjoy nearly 10 solid minutes of new phone porn. Hit the break for the full video.

Annual upgrades will not be enough for Android peeps. Will need to be daily.

    Say it with me –

    Frag-men-ta-tion.

what? lol this is the most random arguement about fragmentation. . . The way you are saying it, fragmentation is a DAMN good thing with the rate at which new phones come out…. nothing wrong wit that.

Not at all. Since Android upgrades come randomly at best to the various multiple phones, the best and probably only way to keep pace is to get a new phone multiple times a year. Who wants to do that?

There is a LOT wrong with this model.

There is nothing wrong with that lmao… The original Droid is not outdated at all when looking at this phone. Sure the processor is faster and it can get a OFDM based 4G, but which program in the market is unable to be ran by what was rightfully marketed as the first high end Android phone? At least you have an option wit Android or other OSes like BB, WP7.

The business world is ran by supply and demand. If the market is demanding new Android phones this fast then so what. It works for responsible car manufacturers.

The kind of fragmentation to be had with Android isn’t so much a version issue with the OS, it is fragmentation due to MULTIPLE hardware specs that vary to a wide degree. So, for example, a developer CAN’T write a game to take FULL advantage of the hardware in the Evo if they want to be able to sell the software to a large number of people. You get upper and lower end phones released all the time. Developers are all about making money … and when you can only sell to half of the market it’s frustrating. So, developers write games to reach as many devices as possible, which unfortunately means most of the games are written for the lower (or mid?) denominator.

BUT … the release of this device doesn’t add anything to the fragmentation because it has upper end hardware. If this thing gets popular, it will only increase the number of phones running upper end stuff and thus (in theory) lower the fragmentation. Because if lower end Android phones purchased are less the norm, it gives more incentives for developers to write for the upper end.

My nokia n900 is still the best smartphone/internet tablet hybrid device.
    It run a desktop OS.
    It blows this rubbish away.

go to a blog that cares

I had an N900 and you can hardly call it a tablet. Screen is way to small and it was not very easy to zoom in and out due to the resistive screen. Linux rocks! Kick-ass device.

    Backlit keys?

I don’t like it. Downgrade from the OG EVO and I love my White Evo.

I bought a phone from Wirefly once, and will not make that mistake again. The box was missing some of the promised hardware, and there was no way to get in touch with service aside from email, which they never answered. Calling the sales phone number, and asking for service just led to another I-don’t-care-how-unhappy-you-are,-just-send-an-email-to-service response, which of course was also never answered.

Ironic that they called it the “Speedy” internally and it only has an 800mhz processor instead of one faster than the current Droid series (1.0 gig) from Moto. Kind of a disappointment for a device that’s receiving so much pub.

    • Sensibility

Like the G2 and the Desire Z, this 800 mhz processor is more capable than the 1 ghz that comes in the droids. It looks like the Evo Shift scores better on the quadrant test than the myTouch 4G, if that means anything

I thought the MyTouch 4g wad scoring something like 1800 or 1900…without any hacking.

I love that the screen orientation didn’t change when the keyboard is open

I was initially excited about this phone, but after seeing it and reading the specs, I’m underwhelmed. I’ll be passing on this one. Looks kinda crappy, especially next to the Moto Droid. I’ll be sticking with my Evo.

This was great. I also enjoy .pdf files and USB ports.

They need to bring back the HTC Universal but with Android. That would be a phenomenally good phone. I miss mine.
