Windows Phone 7 copy / paste captured on video

mobile

Reports of a Windows Phone 7 OS update trickling out to developer phones first surfaced over the weekend. As part of that update, it looks like a very highly anticipated feature has finally made its way to Windows Phones — copy/paste. Microsoft admitted months before Windows Phone 7 launched that it would have to omit copy/paste functionality from the release version of its new mobile OS, but it also said an early update would add the feature. Thankfully, it looks like Microsoft will be true to its word and its first OS update with copy/paste in tow appears to be imminent. Unfortunately, however, it also looks like rumors from last month suggesting Microsoft’s first Windows Phone 7 update would be “massive” are false, as this first update is reportedly rather minor aside from the addition of copy/paste. Hit the break to see a video of copy/paste in action on a Windows Phone 7-powered developer phone.

Google announces Android 2.3/Gingerbread with NFC and many other features. MSFT provides an update with copy/paste :S. Hilarious.

And Google has yet to provide us with a decent music player, game achivements, wireless sync, etc.

      • kwickone

        ^ what he said!

      • Darnell

At least with Android there are good music player apps and apps for wireless sync. The game enhancements are in 2.3.

WP7 is just too little too late.

to be fair…DROID’s copy/paste is god awful compared to VZW’s ipad copy and paste.

      • Anonymous

VZW’s iPad? We get it Norm, you’re a Verizon retailer. Do you really think your comments on BGR are going to drive sales?

Not to mention when MS releases this update we won’t have to wait 4 months to a year so the phone maker can fix it to work with our UI.

    • Mgl323

At least this update will be carried out to all Windows phone 7 unlike Android 2.3.

        True

Carriers can block any WP7 update.

Once. If another update comes, they won’t be able to block the other update.

Dead cellphone OS. Why is Microsoft even bothering?

Time to shut their basket case E&D Division down. Nothing but garbage products:

    Xbox
    Zune
    Kin
    Windows Phone 7

No wonder Microsoft’s stock price has been dead for a decade now.

    • Anonymous

Sir, you always this funny ?

    • sirpaul

YEah, not like anyone is buying the xbox…or that piece of garbage kinect….yeah no one buys that stuff what a fail…oh wait, didn’t they sell 4M of them first month? And isn’t the xbox the 2nd most popular console after the Wii? And stop with the Kin, everyone has a fail product…even Apple. Not too long ago they said they won’t be selling their server hard/software anymore cuz nobody cared for it. It was junk compared to what MS and linux was offering…

      • Anonymous

I notice you ignored the Zune.

      • sirpaul

Because every non-iPod media player pales in comparison to the iPod. The Zune is doing well considering it isn’t an iPod – I haven’t seen a non-Apple mp3 player in probably 2 years – the zune I see now and then.

How many people bought pet rocks when they first came out? Yes the xbox is doing well.. Also helps that they are giving them out for free… And while 2,5 mill are buying the kenitic its a gimick and it will be interesting to see how many people stay behind it in 3-5 months.

    • Paeth

      Bzzzttt!

The Playstation Move has sold 4.4 million

Microsoft’s ripoff off of the Sony Eye Toy(Kinect) has only sold 2 million despite a 500 million dollar PR and marketing campaign.

And, fail, again. The Xbox 360 is in last place with the PS3 in second and the Wii first.

Hilarious that with millions and millions of duplicate Xbox 360s from the RRoD fiasco Microsoft still ends up in last place.

      • sirpaul

Sony sold that many separate controllers. MS kinect can track multiple people, unlike Sonys tech..

      • http://twitter.com/argenys argenys

Are you suggesting that Microsoft is lying about consoles sold and are reporting consoles manufactured? If you are I would like you to post a link on this finding so we can all educate ourselves.

Anyone can make claims without proper citation.

      Your sir are a douche.

That was one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen. The suspense was killing me. I just kept thinking, “Oh my gosh. He just copied that word. I wonder what he’s gonna do with it.” And then, BAM! He goes and drops it into an email! Oh man!

  • Stan Winstone

    Microsoft = Yesterday’s Innovation, Tomorrow…

  • Wildy71

That is so unbelievably bad. Would they release a new version of word without copy paste? They take this so much less seriously that they don’t build in a basic feature out of the box? The ui looks horrid too.

  • numetheus

I’m not saying this because I am an iPhone fan because I am a general tech nut and also rock and love my BlackBerry. But the copy and paste implementation I see here is extremely cumbersome. iOS got it right with the handles you pull around to do the highlighting and magnifying glass box displayed above (not under) your finger so you see exactly where the cursor is going to be placed. It all just works quickly and smooth. It looks like in this implementation you have to have your finger on the exact location and click the tiny arrows triangles and miniscule copy button. This would be a pain unless you are paying close attention … definitely not geared so well for touch use. BUT, my only experience with it is this video so there may be more to it. But from this is looks like a poor touch concept. I also love the copy and paste on my BlackBerry. Very fast and very efficient with one handed operation.

If Microsoft had came out with this Version WP7, they would be in total control of the mobile phone market today…. Microsoft, this is what the people wants from you now with copy and paste built IN, not tomorrow ….!

This rather large beauty is the HTC HD3, a huge new smartphone from HTC that doesn’t just follow on from the HTC HD2, it blows it and every other smartphone on the market clean out of the water!

The HD3 looks set to come with Windows Phone 7 Series, which is a big deal in itself. But it’s the amazing list of features that HTC have managed to cram into the HD3 that is so jaw dropping.

Seriously, think of any hardware feature or spec you’d like to see in your dream phone, and the HD3 has it – in spades! Add to that the tasty novelty of being one of the first Windows Phone 7 Series phones, and the HD3 looks set to be one of the most anticipated phones of the year.

    HTC HD3 Specifications

The existing HTC HD2 is a monster of a smartphone, and with its HTC Sense UI, is what we described as the best Windows Mobile phoen in the world.

But the HD2 was the end of an era. A great end of an era, it has to be said, but it was very much the end of the line as far as Windows Mobile phones were concerned.

No matter. The end of Windows Mobile seems to have ushered in a brave new world of super-advanced Windows Phone 7 Series phones, at least if the HTC HD3 is anything to go by.

    Just check out these specs:

4.5″ AMOLED screen with 1280×800 resolution
    1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
    1080p HD video playback
    720p HD video recording
8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
    Multi-touch screen
    Super-thin – just 10mm thick
    WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity
4G connectivity for for blisteringly fast downloads that are over ten times as fast as today’s HSDPA phones
    1GB onboard RAM
    1GB onboard
    32GB external memory
    3.5″ headphone jack
HDMI output for connecting to your HDTV or monitor
1800mAh battery for super-long battery life
    Bigger screen than the HD2, but a smaller overall physical size: 115mm x 65mm x 10mm

Add to this Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Series mobile OS, and you’ve got one of the hottest smartphones ever released! Give it to us Microsoft, take WP7 to another level ….
