Does apple release updated beta release notes detailing fixes and additions?

    • MRCUR

Yes, but only in regards to the API changes.

    Anyone = Anything?

Look forward to seeing the changes!

  • imjustsaying

Ok but what’s new in this new ios?

  • Android

LOL. RIM is already on OS 6.0.

    • km

      In like a million years…;)

i would like to see some of the ways…..
maybe multitasking? nope all BB’s have always done that and better than Apple. maybe the 6.0 browser? nope Rim has the highest acid test scores. maybe you mean the email? does anyone do email better than Blackberry?
        please elaborate on your comment

      • Yeah

Ohhh shush. Your just upset because you are stuck with a storm… you know.. Blackberries attempt as an iphone rip off =].

      • fanboyardee

It’s so sad. Why can’t people just dump their phone and get what they truly want? I feel bad for anyone stuck with storm too.

Let me start by saying that I have a) a blackberry bold, b) an iphone, c) a droid incredible. i believe i am well informed, and use all OS platforms regularly and I am not a fan boy of any one of them. I like some features in android, some in iphone and the email/calendar part of the blackberry. I use my blackberry for work emails and thats it. And I hate some parts of each of these. None of these are prefect.

I have run hybrid OS’s on my Bold, jailbroke my iphone and rooted the droid. MY subjective conclusions are:

        1. iOS is extremely elegant. But hidden in it are v powerful disabled capabilities (nobody realizes how powerful the iphone can actually be unless they really go wild after jailbreaking as I did – Apple deliberately cripples the iphone, it seems, to provide the consistency that can be achieved only by targeting the lowest common multiple). The availability of an extremely large number of apps, post jailbreak tweaks etc are what attract me to it – not the fact that its cute – in fact i find that embarrassing. Also the iphone is flawed in many other ways – antenna, proximity sensor etc etc but overall its still very good for our times. Maybe 2 years hence we will laugh at it but not now.

        2. Android – Gargantuan effort behind it with devs, google, many manufacturers behind it. It should concern all that with so many cooks in the kitchen the platform is inconsistent across hardware. This must be brought to a head by Google. Skins should only add a layer not be entangled with the underlying code with nasty tenterhooks. There are so many apps in the app store which i have installed only to find they are not compatible with the incredible and have had to frustratingly delete them, that i wish google starts laying down the law. Despite that, I do firmly believe that android is the wave for at least the near future. Apps are increasing dramatically and I can do a lot on my droid inc.

        3. Blackberry – Like the webkit browser but on a 3″ screen, its pointless. Absolutely love the email/calendar/tasks part and integration with office email etc. And how could i forget their beautiful qwerty physical keyboards? However:

        a. multitasking on a blackberry is not as efficient as people might think. It works yes, but all apps seem very inadequate compared to equivalent android or iphone apps – if you make these apps run in the background, so what – they were never as powerful as their versions on iOS or android. While Android is trying to lift 4 50lb weights, bberries are lifting 6 10lb weights – thats an analogy that seems relevant.

        b. Memory management on a blackberry has left a lot to be desired (its as bad as a PC used to be). Why else do you have to reboot your phone every few days? The system does not clear up memory as other platforms do.

        c. The paucity of apps for blackberries is absolutely hilarious. That alone is reason to look away. Nowadays, a phone is no longer just a phone or a pda+a phone, its a mini computer and a phone and and organizer and …. No apps = its a palm treo but a bit better.

        d. Ever wondered why skype on VZ bberries dont work over wifi? Or why there is no fring app for bberries?? There is a technical limitation on bberries that does not allow full duplex voip, so all you get are apps such as iskoot or Skype for bberries which are call through methods, use your minutes and dont even work over wifi. Maybe OS 6 or later versions will address that but currently they cant handle true voip. This is a documented fact and again a deal killer.

        e. Anybody who has seen RIM’s sorry attempts at a touch screen device and how horrendous their media/games management has been knows that this is a platform for work – you have a windows PC with MS office at work and a blackberry for office email. Neither of these are good for anything except work. At home, you get a mac, a droid personal cell, an ipad and so on… Nothing I have seen in OS 6 suggests that bberry is at least getting it. They have made some nice attempts but they are too far away now to catch up.

Long post but i have seen too many fanboys post very unbalanced statements without any reason except that they dont want to feel regret at their recent purchase.

For me its simple – 1. Blackberry for work – she is my wife – loyal and reliable and life without her would be complete chaos, 2. Iphone for media/post jailbreak fun, games, elegance – the supermodel i would like to have hang on to my arm, and 3. Android for the techie in me – like a woman of questionable reputation who satisfies you at a very base level.

        Just my 2 cents

RIM OS 6.0 is still behind android 2.2 and iOS 4.0 in way too many things to even attempt to elaborate. Just a number means nothing… By your logic android 2.2 is worse than iOS 4.0? Pls engage the brain while typing.

      • Android

LOL. Just think about it. RIM is on 6.0. Apple is on 4.0. LOL. Not even close. 6.0 – 4.0 = 2.0 +/- 0.0. Not even within the St.D.

      • Rob

…. yes and Android is on 2…

      • Android

Doesn’t really come into the argument against RIM here. 2.0, yes, 2.2 no.

      • Android

Exactly. Android is even further behind RIM and Apple.

Apple has been behind the competition in terms of OS up until today. Finally Jobs and Co has caught up to the rest of the world. Just saying. Apple was playing catch up since 2007 and if it wasn’t for Google, Apple would still be behind in the mobile OS. Competition has forced Apple to give us the basic features that Nokia phones gave us in 1999. :) lol

      • Yeah

caught up to a complete OS… no. No OS is ever complete.

Plus they are catching up just like Android in terms of having to update to get the phones better and better.

  • Elektra

Exciting. Hopefully it fixes the proximity sensor issue, although it’s not really a big issue for me. And the problem with screen rendering on some websites when you post comments in landscape mode.

  • Frank

Good, this is the flakiest my 3g has EVER been. It was more stable when I had it jailbroken with multitasking enabled. It was pretty slow back then and I thought I wanted to go back to stock but now maybe I should jailbreak it again.

    • J…

Or……maybe you should jump into 2010 and stop messing with phones that have CPU’s running at 412Mhz.

  • Jason Cyrus

    So?

No matter how many iOS updates, Antenna won’t be fix…

Using 2g till 3gs, it finally get bored on iOS platform.
    It’s time to change platform…

  • Brandon

Does this fix the proximity sensor issue?

  • Erik

I can’t duplicate the problem with the proximity sensor after updating to 4.1 Beta 2. I’ll keep playing with it, may be placebo effect. I don’t notice any other changes in the iOS yet.

    • Erik

Called my home phone and tested for 5 minutes. Positioned the iPhone on my shoulder and the sensor went off and on repeatedly. I held the sensor next to my inner ear and it started doing the same thing again. It doesn’t appear that the update fixed the proximity sensor.

  • Ga

Can anyone tell if the proximity sensor issue is fully resolved or not on this one ?

    @Android,

blackberry has been out for years longer you idiot

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

    • Android

Yes! I Agree! 6.0 is greater than 4.0. No argument with you there.

      • Jkr

        @android

You are literally too stupid to live…

  • tony

Blackberry: Also ways ahead in doubleposting

  • Sugar Grove

Hopefully my idontworkasiwasexpectedtophone will perform better. Now the proximity sensor drops more calls than AT&T

  • chellykay88

How did this forum turn into an argument about BB having the most OS updates (6.0) and android being 2.2 and iphone being 4.1? Blackberries have been around longer so obviously they have more updates than apple who has only been making phones since 2007….
This post was about a new update for the iphone if you aren’t commenting about the update itself (good or bad) then why are you posting at all?

    • Darth the Vader the Lord

      Exactly right, ratio-wise; BB:iOS:Goog = 1.5:1.0:0.5 = 3:2:1

BB 6.0 wins, naturally. So many metrics by which Blackberry wins, it’s almost not fair.

    • Jkr

      Thaannnnkkkkk youuuu!!!!

  • MRCUR

Haven’t really noticed any changes besides another updated baseband.

I’ve never had issues with the proximity sensor, so I can’t comment on that.

  • Mark Hobbs

I hope this latest patch stops the crashes which I have been plagued with since IOS4.0 on my 3GS

And this is wihtin a high signal area!!

  • Giorgio

I’m giving my i4 one more chance in terms of the proximity sensor. My current one just started randomely shutting itself off in the middle of the night and already has a very bad case of the proximity blues. I’m going to get it replaced at the Apple store today and if the next update doesn’t truly fix the issue, it’s going back for a Captivate.

    • Giorgio

Oh and I’ve got more “call failed” notifications on this particular i4 in a little over a month then I did in a full year with my 3GS. Unacceptable Apple. I’m hoping mine is just a lemon.

To those that are TRULY not having any issues (and aren’t just fanboys masking them) I am jealous, really I am.

      • bob

It could be a lemon. The only issue I’ve had is the proximity sensor issue, and even that is not too severe (I’ve hit the speaker phone button a couple times). I’ve started to intentionally cup my phone in my left hand during calls to see if any drops occur, and nothing. I live in a relatively mediocre AT&T area (I get around 2 bars on the 4.0.1 scale before the “death grip”). I can definitely see the bars dropping, and speed test can confirm signal degradation, but I simply cannot get a call to drop.

@those BB/RIM fanboy , it’s just numerical things on their OS

ow c’mon, what a childish way to play number..

being fanboy is fine, but being childish? LoL

Redmond Pie warns people to stay away from this dev firmware update if you want to unlock because it patches the baseband exploit the hackers were using to unlock iOS 4.
