Barnes and Noble plays ball with Amazon, releases Android app

Nook for Android Launched

Look, the world of e-book readers isn’t slowing down, and with the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, and even the Apple iPad (somewhat) vying for market share, companies are pulling out all the punches. Amazon successfully made their Kindle service and library available on almost every computer and mobile platform, and Barnes and Noble seems to have the same strategy. Their Android app just hit the Android Marketplace, it’s available for Android OS 1.6 + devices, and is available immediately. Barnes and Noble also offers a PC client in addition to an iPhone app.

This is perfect for the Dell Streak given the screen size. :-)

Hmm they show the Cliq in their promo pic above but the Cliq is still on Android 1.5. FAIL… or better yet, Moto’s FAIL…. or maybe BGR posted incorrect requirements?

Just another reason to get a droid.

You’ve mixed your metaphors. It should either be “pulling out all the stops” or “not pulling any punches.”

They also have BlackBerry and WinMo versions, although for some reason they don’t feature the WinMo version on their website. It can be found at XDA and PPCGeeks.

I like how they have the Droid X in front of the Evo because the X is a far better device.

How is X better? 4G vs 3G. Sense vs Blur. Good camera vs bad camera. Sleek vs hump back. Good quality vs quality issues. If you look at it objectively X is a bad copy of EVO.

    Don’t you love competition?
Let’s hope it does something for prices. Devices and books.

I think that not only does this put them on a more level field as Kindle, but it allows both the Kindle and Nook to move into a part of the e-reader market that Apple will not touch. The day that Apple begins pushing out ibook for Android is the day hell freezes over.
