Apple removing links to Consumer Reports study from forums

Consumer Reports logo

The Unofficial Apple Weblog is reporting that moderators of Apple’s support forums are deleting discussions and links to the Consumer Reports study released yesterday. The report stated that CR could not recommend the iPhone 4 due to an antenna glitch that the company feels Apple needs to fix. Users are reporting that more than one thread (TUAW reports six) have been deleted from Apple’s forums thus far; you can check out the cached version of one such discussion here. The iPhone 4 antenna situation is a PR nightmare for sure, and, for whatever reason, Apple seems hell-bent on making it worse.

    Quick question:

Regardless of flawsm I bet at least 90% of us here entered the “iPhone 4 free give away”

    Y/N?

    Me = Y

    • JAMES

I didn’t. I don’t want any Apple stuff even if given for free (which I probably sell rather than use.)

    • destardi

Um, you apparently aren’t aware that Android is the more advanced O/S?

      Me=Hell no

  • JJ

this bad!! this is really bad!!

they are in control on everything. from all the products released by apple, no DIY battery replacement, memory upgrade, repair only @ apple store………..

i m glad i dont own any apple products

  • Brian

Apple has always removed threads that weren’t technically relevant or useful to users. It’s a tech support forum. Not a rant forum. If the thread does not help customers with fixing issues and rants on it’s deleted. They’ve been doing this for years

    • reality check

Brian, I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you need a reality check or perhaps you are just inherently naive. Apple takes it off the forum because it doesn’t want this information to be dissemintated anymore than it already has. It’s a PR stunt to minimize the fallout Apple is already experiencing. Believing it’s anything else, means you’re gullible. Keep drinking that koolaid.

  • http://www.mynucleus.org keeping it real

When the users keep it real, Apple falters. Jobs now has to change is strategy that he has to release a new product each year and actually spend time making their products more reliable. iPhone for long has been the synonym for a phone with reception issues and it is about time apple took some time to address this issue.

Apple…. respond/ address issues….???? They just don’t do that. They don’t acknowledge any product deficiencies.

It actually makes sense that they don’t. Half of their customer base, at least, is tied up in the notion that this company is technically superior and never does anything wrong. I have a colleague that says he wants an iHouse.

If Apple admitted they do anything wrong they would disillusion at least half of their customers who think the company walks on water, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Are people who are with Verizon still looking forward to the iPhone?

    • MikeD

Yup. Because the signal this problem wouldn’t be an issue.

      • Michael Campbell

How so? This is a hardware problem; I don’t see how the carrier can get around that.

      • Kiddo

See my comment above MikeD is an iHouse guy. Refusing to believe this product is as crappy as it is despite having the evidence right in their faces.

  • Kenju4u

Returning this POS if I don’t hear anything from Apple by the 20th!!!

I am experiencing poor reception with call drops and 1 or 2 bars in places while a 3GS next to me would have full bars. That’s not software that’s hardware Steve you dumb duck!!! Specially when Apple says the issue exists all all versions of the software.

    • Kiddo

The 3GS has full bars because they are faked. No iPhone has actually worked. The problem is Apple users are afraid to complain about their products, they have too much emotional baggage tied up in the fact that they pay twice as much as anyone else for their stupid product. If they acknowledged what a piece of crap iPhones are they would feel foolish.

Some will. I owned an over priced iPhone dropped it because…. you guessed it reception issues. Back to my Blackberry. Yes interface is dated but phone works.

  • iamajim

hahaha-Gawd I hope not; Vz is doing justfinethankyou with Android.

  • rederikus

Censoring free press reports. What a fine, fine company CrApple are.

I’ll bet these reports are up on CrackBerry.

You WILL load only approved apps. You WILL submit to regular search and removal procedures to ensure you run only approved apps. You WILL read only approved forum threads.
THIS is why I stand against Apple. Their phones are drop dead beautiful. It is their insistence on having full control of the user experience that I cannot stand. Denying a flawed design is icing on a cake I cannot swallow. Does wishing an entire company to fail make me a hater? I’m pretty sure it does, so be it..
Or Apple could change. I would easily forgive them if they changed their ways. If they want to control something, they should control how Foxconn workers are treated when building their devices.

I love everything about my phone except it can’t make calls. WTF!?!?! I waited in line for 7 hours for THIS!?!?! Apple needs to do a recall, STAT. I’ve been a loyal iPhone customer since day 1, but I think it’s time to give the Android a shot.

  • Cody

I’ve always felt like Steve’s arrogance built Apple. It’s also his arrogance that will destroy it.
How many fans will Apple have after Steve is gone? Are they truly fans of Apple products, or Steve?

    • Michael Campbell

It’s not just this, but since Steve is SO “alpha male” there, if/when he leaves, he will have long since killed (figuratively) any heirs apparent. There just won’t be anyone around with the force of will and vision that he currently has to keep the company on the 1 track it’s on.

  • Alex

I’m glad Apple deleted those threads. I wish they could delete other exaggerated articles as well.

I’m an iphobe4 user, and I can attest that the iphone4 is better than the 3gs. So what’s the fuss?

I hope the media, and some websites would stop milking iphone’s popularity to get readers :)

    • Kiddo

Huh? Comparing to 3GS is like saying my car is better because it beats a Yugo. 3GS is a piece of shit too.

Get a real phone Blackberry or Android and find out.

    • TKO

Just because you haven’t experienced the issue doesn’t mean countless others haven’t. I am so frustrated with this piece of junk right now and Apple trying to cover it up is just making this worse!

  • http://www.absolutefiction.com Rono

    They keep digging!!!
Somebody with a brain, please save them!

  • Micahel

So I guess this was not a good time to buy my first iPhone. I have it, I put a case on it, I don’t seem to have any issues. There is a design flaw, they damn well better fix it but seriously I have never owned a phone without a case, oh wait my Droid Incredible didn’t need ONE, NOW DID IT.

    • skyboxer

It’s a design flaw, you cant fix it without redesigning it. You can only work around it. The bumpers are one solution. The duct tape is another, though personally I would use a clear scotch tape instead.

  • EM

Dude, if you guys spend this much time on something else, you would have your own companies.
