DROID X ad takes a shot at iPhone 4 antenna woes

General

droid-x-bitch-slap-small

Apparently Motorola thinks the antenna issues that are plaguing the iPhone 4 are a laughing matter. Based upon this full page ad that was published in today’s New York Times, we’d have to agree.

“[...] And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls. You have a voice. And you deserve to be heard.

That’s gotta sting a bit, no? Hit the bounce to check out the ad in full-sized glory!

Thanks, A.!

take all the shots you want droid x. one thing is for sure you will have plenty in stock. since you won’t have 600,000 pre orders and sell 2 million in one week.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

    • Ernie

Uh, them are some mean fighting words!!!!! Where are the Apple BOYZ, we need more fighters like Latino Man (hey me too!) That’s why Latino’s are such good boxers. We don’t pull the punches…

      • Bryan

#1 the iPhone is for bandwagoners, aka followers that don’t research their product & have no individuality. And for the boxing comment, Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Evander Holifield & Lennox Lewis. Step your weight class up & then see how well you box.

      • JJ

Hey Bryan, these – as you call them – bandwagoners gave SONY, NOKIA, SAMSUNG, HTC and GOOGLE the wakeup call for finally kicking out this clumsy old cellphones we had to use for decades.
It’s great that they woke up and that there’s strong competition coming up against Apple but at least for me I still think that the IPhone – maybe not technically – but from an aesthetic point of view – is still ahead of the other guys. Let’s hope they wont just imitate but concentrate on innovation and get some good designers on board.
Until then i keep my iphone and in Germany we have T-Mobile and the reception is not as good as with a Blackberry but it’s absolutely ok.

      • luke

JJ’s Funny, ROFL, do you realise unless gates bailed you guys out the iPHONE wouldn’t exsist!?

      • luke

LOVE IT technically ( iLEMMINGS ) bahahahahahahahaha

    • Kristopher Roache

Do you have your Gucci handbag to go with your Apple iphone? Just cause there is an apple on the back does not make it a superior product. People are Lemmings and will buy whatever everyone else is buying. I guarantee Droid X will blow it up on its release. Android came from nowhere and with blazing speed is working to unthrone the iphone and thus far its working for it.

      • Ernie

so isn’t that the reason you are buying android? don’t give me that bullshit. you don’t buy apple product because it has the logo and you guy google products because it has the google logo.

it just doesn’t get through to your heads. we are all the same. we just play for another team or cheer for another team. but it’s still the same sport and the same sentiments.

      • Ernie

Sorry i meant BUY Google products…

      • agentq

LOL all about the Ernie fail train choo choo

      • Kristopher Roache

Incorrect I own apple products but dont claim they are the best just because the most people buy em. I own a all in one iMac and an iPad. There is no alternate atm for the ipad to challenge it and I have had Windows based computers for years and never liked the Windows OS so i finally gave a mac a try. For my phone I own a Blackberry Storm soon to be a Droid X if all goes well after its launch. Being apple does not automatically make it #1 and having the most sales does not insure quality.

      • ale5six1

i was all about your post until you mentioned you own a storm. worst BB ever made, and i work for Verizon. that phone is such garbage. its the Razor of BB. everyone wants it just because its a “touchscreen” blackberry. because touchscreen automatically makes it… better? WRONG! do research before purchasing a phone, dont just jump into the new “hype” product. which is what most iphone users do. if you dont believe that. why was there a line a week long waiting for the very first iphone to be launched before anyone had even used the device? because people were stuck on ipods and thought “oh an ipod with a phone in it… how cool!”

      • WalterSobchak

A lot of android phones aren’t google experience devices w/ the google logo on them. Shit some have yahoo and bing.
Not my droid though, nice google logo right on back.

      • ChocoTaco

I’m going to buy the Droid X because the hardware is better and more powerful than the iPhone’s and the Android OS does everything iOS does and a whole lot more. I like having full control over my OS, an open market, HDMI support, Flash support, integrated Exchange support, a larger and actually usable screen, removable flash memory, a removable battery and a phone that gets great reception no matter which hand I hold it with on a network that has great coverage.

What’s your reason for getting the iPhone aside from the Apple logo? Or the notion that “everyone else has one so I should get one, too”?

      • Bryan

I see your point somewhat. I work in wireless & the main threat is, “I’ll just leave you & go get an iPhone.” It’s a trend. They’re/you’re not researching the product. I’ve had Sprint, T-Mobile & Verizon & have only had Motorola on all. I research the product, not the trend.

      • JJ

They all know that Apple started it all and in that matter was the midwife for Android – also most of them hate to see that the Iphone-design is awesome and HTC, Samsung and Nokia still don’t produce and design that level of aesthetics. But by disliking comments like your’s they have a way to feel and act superior. I’d say thats just human…a bit immature but human.

      • Firegvw

just decided to come back and see if you and your buddies feel dumb now. After all the new things that have happened in the last couple months. shove the iphone in your mouth and pipe down.

      • Ray

Ernie, I bought Android because it’s open source. It runs on a Linux kernel.

NOT because it has a Google logo on it.

I was torn between the Palm Pre, which also runs on the Linux kernel, but decided on Android since it’s available from any manufacturer on any carrier, and the Palm Pre doesn’t have an SD card slot.

The iPhone is a good product, not as good as Android, but decent.

      • JJ

Now finally somebody who is honest! I really respect if somebody buys an Android due to the technical openess of the system. I guess Ray, you also agree that a fast majority of people out there either never heard about Linux nor would want to bother about it (even though it is one of the greatest software ever). And the IPhone is not only iOS it is also in my opinion a highly aethetic tool. And as long as the other fail to achieve that level of design it wont matter much wether the underlying OS is Linux or Apple-OS.
I never been an Apple-guy – I’m using Linux on Dell-PCs for several years but when it comes to smartphones i kicked my BB 2 years ago and love my iphone. That wont change until the others get me a device as simple and “feel-good” as this… And I hope they will make it one day…

      • Graham

Funnily enough, Kristopher, my wife finds her 3GS fits very snuggly into the dedicated pocket in her Gucci bag. She loves bag and phone equally. I’ve got to admit I like her phone too but have NO intention of acquiring the latest iteration.
Iphone 4 is clearly pants and the fact that the manufacturers haven’t the good grace to admit it, does not bode well. Frankly a glass back on a phone is dumb and I remember reading in the manual of my very first phone that touching the antenna during a call would compromise the signal. Someone at Apple needs their bottom spanked. And no pocket-money for a month.

    • MicroNix

Umm, latinjersey, hate to tell you, but the latest news is that Best Buy sold out of all their pre-order allocation of the Droid X and it doesn’t even come out till July 15th. That doesn’t sound like plenty in stock you poor uninformed consumer.

    • Burrito Krusha

“since you won’t have 600,000 pre orders and sell 2 million in one week. ”

Wow! That has to be a record! 2 million defective phones sold in one week!! Wow wee! What’s next? A record breaking recall of 2 million in one day?

    • JAG

hey iDiot!! Didn’t you know that more than 75% of iPhone 4 buyers were coming from 3G or 3Gs?

      What a great deal!!!

So enjoy your issues full useless phone.

    • HAHAHAHAHA

Did you get to finish your comment?? just making sure! you posted from your iphone and I thought maybe you lost signal before you got your full comment posted.. If you want you can use your computer to send me an email of what you wanted to say and ill post it for you from my DROID INCREDIBLE!!!

  • Hmmm

I really don’t get all the Apple hatn that’s going around…I have the iPhone 4 and have no issues whatsoever. I of course use a case but I always have to protect my devices. I am in no way a fanboy the iPhone is the only apple product I own, I have even been tempted go switch to Verizon for the Droid X but I can’t sit my iPhone down long enough to review the X. Flame suite on!!

    • Ernie

Hmmm, the hating stems out of jealousy. A lot of these guys tried to work with Apple and got flat out rejected. In some other instances, they think Steve Jobs’ hating is the in thing for nerds. Remember Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO stated that nerds and engineers are their customers, not regular consumers.

      • JJ

Ernie, you highlky underestimate Eric Schmidt! The “regular customers” is what he is REALLY after. These are the ones who will pay for his party and not the NERDS. The NERDS he just uses to get there!! They are the ones who will build the APPS and thats one of the major things he needs real quick to compete with Apple.
Once the NERDS realice that, Google might start to milk them too – and then everybody will start whining about Google again – even the NERDS…

    • jb

This cracks me up! Both sides are exactly the same. Apple fanboys trashing Android like they had something to do with the development of the phone they use and Android fanboys do the same against Apple. Grow up, there both really good devises and both have pluses and minuses, If you like one better than good for you. Either side will never say anything good about the other platform which is pretty lame. As far as jealousy? What is that about, These guys you say tried to get a job at Apple…too funny, where did you pull that one out of??? I think people take all of this a little too serious becouse they don’t have a real life….IMO

      • jamezr

I keep waiting for Verizon make a commercial promoting their Droid phones with “There’s a grip for that” LOL

    • JJ

SAME HERE :) but as you can see, Google got a whole army behind their back for promoting Android. I mean lets be fair: a free and open source system, dozen’s of ancient cellphone-manufacturers who were unable to get a decent system running for themselves jump on the free Google-train now.
Might there be a catch somewhere? I mean is Google starting to be such a giving company? Let’s wait and see … but I guess pretty soon it wont be much of a difference wether Apple or Google- both of them are in this for the money only Google prooved to have more tricky ways to get there …

  • wes

Some kiddies’ parents won’t switch the family plan over to AT&T.

    • JJ

maybe i wouldnt either. luckily we have TMOBILE here in Germany covering the IPHONE. and we dont have thos issues that you guys on the US-side are filling whole websites with. Hope for you guys that Apple will act on this now…

  • wes

Yeah 74 days later when the droid was BOGO for $20

    • Ernie

It was BOGO but I don’t believe it was $20!

  • mattl

well…. i guess they can’t call this one “magical”

  • BoogieNYC

What’s more embarrassing, Antennagate or all the iPhone trolls in here trying to crap on Android as an O/S and the Droid X?

Very entertaining. Can’t wait ’til July 15th, my guy’s already got the first one out of the box put aside for me.

    • izzle

android owners do it on iphone pages all the time… get used to it brother

      • wanderer

yeah and actually the haters/fandroids have the edge in the apple posts trolling category.

  • Keymaker

But can it takes pictures though???? LMAO.

  • mikestorm

The best part? A response/retort from Apple would double as an acknowledgment that they actually have a problem.

Well done Moto. Well done indeed.

In other news: The device looks gorgeous. Seriously going to consider come August when it gets 2.2.

  • Capt.Obvious

I was like, holy shit, then realized it was a Moto ad and not a Verizon ad. Sad but true, when the day comes that I need to hold my BB or DROID a particular way to get reception, that’s the day when I never buy a product from them ever again. I don’t blame Apple 100%, I still think at&t’s crappy network has something to do with it. I bet if the iPhone 4 was on Verizon, we could cover the phone and still get at least 3 bars (or more).

    • EggoEspada

      Its a design flaw…

  • neo

two weeks and it’s going to be buy one get one free with verizon’s bogo. it probably comes with a virus too.

  • Tom

And despite their clever advertising Moto will sell a fraction of the number of iPhone 4s sold in a couple of days. Take that to the bank.

    • Alex

well that fraction will not only be on the net at high-speed but will actual be able to have good reception unlike you apple-luvin queeers!!!!!

    • BoogieNYC

That’s not a knock on the Droid X, that says a lot about iPhone buyers. Knowing there’s a serious issue with reception and they’re still buying them. LOL…that’s kind of pathetic.

To their credit, at least the American people largely stopped buying Toyotas until the safety issues were worked out. Buying a phone that doesn’t work properly when held is like buying a car knowing if you drive it while sitting in the seat you can’t turn left. LOL…

      • JJ

we dont have these issues here in Germany. Maybe thanks to TMOBILE or maybe thanks to not having so much FANDROIDS leaving Hate-comments. Whats the purpose in jabbering about Iphone-problems if you dont even have one? And if you do have one -give it back / money back! I dont mind you being happy with your DROID-phone, I just think Google will make you guys pay as well as soon as they have enough market share. Lets hope its not you guys whining about Google in 2 years from now…

    • badfishie

so Tom the number of malfunctioning phones sold is impressive to you? You like the number of Toyota Prius sold that have faulty gas pedals too? Personaly I like a phone (or any product I buy) to function porperly every where I want to use it. I dont like it being defective

  • Infojock

Damn folks pick your platform and roll with it! Why do we have to get into this iPhone vs Android catfight at every turn? Both of them are excellent at what they do, pure and simple. Lay back and ENJOY!

    • JJ

…good one. and lets not forget that Apple as well as Google are both in it for the money. These are the guys who we are fighting here about. Google is doing things for free right now but nobody would be so ignorant to think that it will always stay like that, right?
I agree with infojock that both systems beat the crap out of the ancient cellphone giants that kept us using their crappy old phones for decades. SO – FINALLY – we even got two great systems.

  • Agd

Why is everyone talking about verizon taking shots at apple, its not verizon it’s Motorola, dumb asses

    • JJ

mmmh, not so sure about that… the verizon logo was visible bright and clear next to Motorola’s on the NY-times-Ad. And Verizon definitely has to authorize the usage of their logo on such an occasion.
But this might just be another move within pretty tough negotiations between Apple and Verizon. We might never know…

  • jawman

This is great. Love to see trash talk and competition amongst competitors. It’s also some humor for us consumers.
And come on guys, you can’t blame them. Apple, I say again, APPLE, releasing their latest smartphone yet, can’t make a phone with proper antenna reception? That’s a joke in itself, so I see no harm in competitors laughing along with it and putting a little salt on the wound. I love it actually. This drives competition amongst the industry, and we profit from it as they drive harder and harder to come up with new and improved ideas and technology.

  • bozman

Well I give Apple the props for inventing the iPhone because that changed everything as far as smart phones are concerned and that’s why we have great Android devices today. I’d have to say that iPhone is not “all that” anymore..

  • Kevin

    lol @ motorola hahaha

  • Bimeerjams

I see motorola making fun of iPhones antennas issue but yet you don’t see motorola having there own OS for there phone now do they ? Grow up motorola you have been in the communications business for the longest time. And I do not re call apple ragin on motorlolas phones. Every phones have issues in my opinion. I have an iPhone and the wifey has the incredible. And we both love our phones.

    • BM

Every phone does have issues, but when your phone has an issue being a “phone”, you deserve the scrutiny.

The “i” is amazing. The “Phone”, not so much.

  • iDroidguy

umm really you guys? Really? This whole thing is stupid…I’m with TMobile and I have the Motorola Cliq, but I also have an iPod touch… you could basically say I have the best of both worlds… the Android OS is great, you can fully control it, and everything, but the iPhone OS is cleaner… its faster, my phone freezes up soo much from just trying to switch homepages. Now my iPod has never frozen up on me, and even when my iPod was jailbroken, my iPod was faster than my Cliq, and my iPod has less available memory. But the Android OS is fully customizable, and that’s one of the best things, buuut, the Android market sucks… every OS has its ups and downs, and I wish that most of you guys would realize that before going out online, embarassing yourself and showing your ignorance by arguing about something as stupid as an OS, come ON, life is TOO short to be on the internet arguing about some crap like this… and that’s just my 2 cents, and I apologize if I offend anybody. Have a nice night now

  • Cold Dead Fingers

Now, if only the mass wanted an oversized Backflip….

  • Verizon Guy

    RULE THE AIR!

  • DROID X

DROID X is powerful no doubt about it. But Android users are really doubting the iPhone. Dont forget the iphone is original touch screen SMART phone the first of its kind and Android is trying extra hard(making armies of phones) to DEthrone it. But Android will always be second place. I have an iPhone 3G jailbroken/unlocked, and my iPhone does all the iPhone 4 does and all droid x does. Without the new extra fast processor. The thing that brings iphone users like me back, is After you jailbreak it. THE IPHONE is JUST THE BETTER PHONE. Im not even getting the iphone 4 until there is a jailbreak with lots of developers and apps behind to bring out the full potential.

    • DROID X

Iphone will always be on top as long as there is a jailbreak for it. What apple puts out is pretty disappointing until you jailbreak it. I dont use AT&T ( at the loss of 3G), Tmobile gets what i need done. Edge helps me survive and I download mostly off of wifi. So after the iPhone 4 recieves a FAT jailbreak it will again be the better phone. Right now at this moment Kudos to Google because Droid X is better . And so is Google Chrome browser beats off competition by a long faster shot.

  • JJ

Sorry guys – I just never liked MOTO-designs. Not the Razer and none of the other MOTO’s. And this one is not my taste either.
As most of you here I also dont like to have exactly the same (i)-phone as millions of others but as long as SOny, Moto and the other dont reach a design level of Apple, I will keep my Iphone.
And btw, TMOBILE rules!! No issues with reception and all that trouble commented and whined about!!

  • http://alghienkad06.student.ipb.ac.id thea

    cooll

  • Rob D

Why not just be happy that you got a phone that does what you want (iPhone, Android, Cliq, BlackBerry, etc.)? It’s stupid to sit and tell people who clearly like their iPhone that they made the wrong choice, as it is for iPhone customers to talk smack about Android customers. Whatever. If it can do for you what you want (case or no), then be happy you have something that does what you paid for. If you can work around the quirks and gotchas (EVERY phone has them), then good for you. That makes you more than the sheep-like consumer.

I’m no Apple fan, but do I hate people that have iPhones? No. Do I think they have innovative devices, yes. Do I like how Apple has handled the bad PR? No.

I think Apple’s control over their hardware really helps them in the quality department (overall), BUT – no one is perfect. When you start pointing fingers at everyone else rather than say, “We’re sorry, we made an engineering/design mistake – we’ll fix it” that gets me. Verizon, Google, AT&T et al had nothing to do with that. Apple has played it dirty with the attenuation vids and the Vulcan grip suggestion. Rightfully so, competitors are going to jump at the opportunity to defend their name.
