T-Mobile myTouch Slide spotted in the wild, screams hello to 2008

As ugly today as it was the first time we saw it, the T-Mobile myTouch Slide has once again been spotted in the wild. Now sporting a blinding fascia and a curiously stylized Google search button, the myTouch Slide is the very device some of our T-Mobile connects reported will replace the ageing and increasingly unpopular Sidekick line-up as far as T-Mobile is concerned. We’ll find out if this is the case soon enough, because this device is currently on track to be released on the 19th of May. Just as a little bonus, there’s even a pic of another myTouch Slide that’s running Android 2.1. Once more, the specs:

  • 1300mAh battery
  • MicroSD memory cardslot is accessible without battery removal.  It is a push to insert and push to remove design.
  • Optical trackpad.
  • Camera with LED flash.
  • 3.5 mm Headset Jack
  • Slide-out 4 row QWERTY keyboard
  • 320×480 screen resolution.
  • ARM11 processor.

Not exactly what one tends to picture when thinking of a “new and improved” handset, but our guess is enough people will bite.

(Not what people would picture with a new and improved handset) I wasnt going to bash bgr or apple, but good god that comment is lame comming from a fan of a phone that looks the same as it did for 4 years now. Yes Michael, Im going to call you a hypocrit.

  • RJ

Why the hell is BGR so negative about this phone? It does everything the Sidekick does, and more. It’s always connected and has a great keyboard.. and is cheaper. So? REALLY, BGR.. go find another phone to pick on.

Hey, look! More meager Android offerings from T-Mobile! Who’da guessed?!

  • Mik

I know this is not for everyone, But I think, thats a stylin phone. Thats something that has been missing for a while in phones, a little flair.

  • Nokia N900

    I kinda want it…

I could care less about this phone. I and a lot of t-mobile users are getting fed up with their lack of phones running android. They are falling behind EVERY competing phone company. I’ve been with T-mobile for 6 years now, but I have to start complaining. I’m trying to be loyal but give us the HTC desire already. Or a phone like the HD2 that can run android!

      uuhh nexus one?

  • Kilari

Sort of interested. Might trade out of my G1 for this. Just cus I don’t like the keys on the G1s keyboard. I considered getting a Nuron to save a buck. But I wasn’t a fan of the hardware. I’m really wanting Tmo to get a 32GB Nokia X6. That’s what I really want.

What’s up with all the T-Mobile people complaining about the lack of good Android phones? Did Google stop selling the Nexus One with T-Mobile 3G bands? Is the deal no longer $180 with a 2 year contract? Or is the Nexus One not a good enough Android phone for you?

    • Androidawg

The N1 is different from all other Android phones. You can’t add this phone to an already established family plan. It’s fine for new customers, but for those of us with multiple phones and many years of loyal service, this is not what we are looking for. Even I am considering a move to the HD2. It’s the only Snapdragon phone I can add to my account without completely re-working my account.

      • UberSapian

Plus the N1, great phone it is, still has the BS track ball while the Desire has gone optical. Coming from an ex blackberry user thats a huge plus! I have a My Touch now and welllll guess what…. the trackball is going out! And… with the OLED display, the N1 is almost unreadable out doors and useless in the sunlight.

      • Channan

Nah. I can read my Nexus One just fine outside.

      • T-MOBILE-REP

me too…you just heard you can’t, surely you can’t afford it.

Though if you are a new or existing customer it’s pretty foolish to get any phone subsidized on T-Mobile, just pay full price for the phone and get an Even More Plus plan and you will save money in the long run.

      • sunshine7122

I have to agree Robert. I bought the MyTouch out right and I have to say I made a really good decision. I’ve been with TMobile for 5 years and I am not in a contract. I loath contracts. I’d rather just buy the phone.

      • Valerie

I bought the N1 unsubsidized. If you switch to the new Even More Plus plans and pay full price for phones, you come out ahead in the long run and have fewer limitations on what you can do.

Do T-Mobile offer Data plan only for Deaf Community?? Probably not! T-Mobile is changing the rate plans alot lately

    • RJ

Hi, I’m Deaf as well (with the Droid), and I switched away from using the entire line of Sidekicks after the data loss fiasco they had. T-mobile itself still offers Deaf friendly plans-but only for the Blackberry (it’s actually BB’s plan) and Sidekick.

Android is Google-controlled, and I argued with T-mobile for weeks to get my plan without voice. They didn’t give in back when I had a G1.

My solution was to switch to Verizon and join my parents on their voice plan. That way, I only pay for the data portion of the plan, $30/mo.

      Hope that answers your questions.

I am w/u man…the Mytouch slide looks ok and an improvement but c’mom Tmo Let us have the HTC DESIRE. That is the perfect phone and perfect size. The HD2 even though awesome is just a lil big..i played with it in store. I think the perfect size of phones should range betw 3.7 and 4.0 inches. But Tmo must get the HTC DESIRE…just perfect

  • Brian

This is great. It has 512mb of ram and a 600-750mhz arm11. So it has a little faster cpu than most of the other android expect for the newer high end phones.

I’m happy for this because it has a real keyboard. I refuse to use a touchscreen only phone for many reasons and one of them is that it makes it easier when playing nes roms and other games.
