AT&T to have two webOS devices in first half of 2010

CES

att_webos_announce

Today, AT&T’s CEO Ralph de la Vega announced that Ma’ Bell will be carrying, not one, but two webOS powered handsets in the first half of 2010. Now, we’re assuming he is talking about the Palm Pre and the Palm Pixi, since they are the only two webOS devices in existence right now, but remain desperately hopeful cautiously optimistic that Palm will come through with some new hardware at CES for us to drool over.

They should introduce a portable sybian for the women that is powered off a phone = PROFIT

Android and WebOS? I smell iPhone leaving.

    • DubYa

I smell with the iPhone, webOS, android, winmo, etc….device selection is not going to be a reason people will want to leave AT&T.

If only the network was a bad ass as the device line up.

      • The Truth

I think what she meant was you can count on Apple not renewing their exclusivity contract with AT&T anytime soon.

  • StevenGlansburg

WHERE IS THE APPLE LOGO ON THAT SLIDE????????? UH OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

    • Ben

I wouldn’t look too much into it. The slide title says “Grow Device Portfolio to Represent Major Operation Systems” To my count, Apple only has 1 device…iPhone…at least announced and confirmed.

  • Macman

I agree iPhone is done with AT&T

  • grrr

Cool, I can finally get my iPhone! A 4G fourth gen iPhone is all I’m looking for.

    • Mrwirez

Apple is so 2009. lol… Get a “Super Phone” called the NexusOne in the spring.

      • grrr

The nexus one probably won’t be THAT much better than my droid running 2.1.

  • Name*

Damn…They STILL have the MicroMachines dude running that company?

  • 4Shizzle

WebOS + 3D Graphics! Yay! It’ll give me something to look forward to if their Android lineup sucks big time.

  • Laz

So the Pre and Pixi is getting pimped on AT&T too…

  • jude

at&t has burned me with bad service for too long. “Other carrier” here I come.

    • cellguy

vzw is way too controlling to get iphone as an exclusive. besides ralph was talking about new devices in the first half of 2010. the last iphone was a second half launch ;)

  • Centerfield13

“New” doesn’t mean “better”. The Google phone doesn’t have much to offer above the iPhone except maybe a faster CPU and bigger screen.

    Not as many apps.

What we have now are bad choices: iPhone on AT&T’s bad network, Droid and other Android devices on Verizon’s expensive network, Android and WebOS on Sprint’s sinking ship, and Android devices on T-Mobile’s small 3G network.

Pick what suits you best, hold your nose, and deal with it. We live in a C+ world these days.

    • Laz

      Well said…

Almost makes ya think there is a conspiracy.

    • Mrwirez

@Centerfield13 “The Google phone doesn’t have much to offer above the iPhone except maybe a faster CPU and bigger screen”. ??

That does not even make sense. This is the game we are all playing. Bigger, better, faster..

AT&T and Verizon pricing is VERY similar. Unfortunately one works better.

      • cellguy

yeah att is faster and has a much better connection rate. (excluding iphone) look it up! also att is actually 3g and delivers 3g not cdma2000 that is called 3g like speeds.

  • NoFan

@ Centerfield13….have checked the prices between AT&T and Verizon….same…I think after adding everything including insurance ATT is $3 bucks more expensive for a crappy network.

    • cnavs

I guess you would want an iphone on a network that will not allow you to have voice and data at the same time, also have slower 3G speeds, not have a lot of free wi-fi spots to choose from, and only have access to 14% of the World’s Network (CDMA 14% vs. AT&T –GSM has 86% of the World users? Good luck!

    • Carmen

AT&Ts network isn’t crappy in Pittsburgh. I just depends where you live and frequent.

I tend to like a company that makes the hardware and the software and has experience doing both as well as innovating the most copied UI on the planet. Rather than someone who pays others to design and build, and then uses off-the-shelf hardware to piece something together that will run it.

IT’S ABOUT TIME. I’M READY TO DUMP MY IPHONE FOR SOMETHING BETTER AND PS ATT RULES STOP HATING.

  • jonathan

A fourth gen Iphone this June and on other providers…nice!

  • pdusk

I wish T-mobile would get some Web OS phones. Yeah i like Android and all but I would take a Web OS running on a real hspa network anyday.

  • jdizzle

Which phone does Obama use, because I want that one.

    • StevenGlansburg

Likely something Russian or Chinese… something for the people by the people

  • Mrwirez

PC world’s top 10 Smart Phones… Sorry iphone.

*Nexus One not yet on there… http://tinyurl.com/ykfnst6

  • Mike S.

Since there’s no Apple logo on AT&T’s pic, here’s hoping for a CDMA iPhone. Verizon would be better than Sprint, but I’ll take either at this point.

    • JoJo

Whoa, good point there. Thats pretty damning if you ask me. Show off the logos of all your smartphone companies in your slide and leave out Apple. Plus they didnt just announce the release of Android devices. No, they just opened the floodgates on Android, exclusives, WebOS, Symbian market, etc. After 2 years of releasing no new smartphones other than WinMo and BB to appease their corporate base, to now drop these bombs amid discussion of ATT losing exclusivity of the iPhone is pretty telling.

      • Laz

Apple will now blow-up TMO like we all did with our first car(drive it like you stole it)…

  • Maurice

I just cannot get as excited as I would be about this considering the current 3G/network problems AT&T are widely believed to have.

So they’re introducing more high-speed data devices (webOS, Android) onto a network that still hasn’t resolved their current problems delivering high-speed data?

Kind of a bittersweet moment, in my eyes.

Yawn where is Maemo I hate Android
    Maemo > Android
