Motorola Droid will be Verizon’s Android handset from Motorola?

Exclusive

Moto-Tao1

We just received word from a tipster that the much-awaited Motorola Sholes or Motorola Tao will actually be called the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless. The above information is not confirmed at this time, but we have independently confirmed that regardless of whatever name Verizon (or Moto) chooses to run with, their Motorola Android handset will not run MOTOBLUR. It will be a straight with Google device and will be the first Google Experience handset to offer built-in Adobe Flash support natively.

We have heard that the announcement will be made not next week but the week after.

UPDATE: We’ve been given specifications for the handset:

  • 3.7″ screen
  • 854×480 WVGA capacitive screen
  • 5 megapixel camera
  • ARM Cortex 500MHz CPU
  • Facial recognition using the built-in camera (apparently you take a photo of someone and Google will pull in search results based on the image)
  • Custom Motorola Interface/UI, no MOTOBLUR, no Verizon UI
  • Available in black and titanium colors

We’ve also been told there will be a keyboard-less version that’s planned for 2010.

I work for Verizon Wireless and specifically work with many co-workers who have given up their IPhone, They have said that the service with AT&T Sucks and the device is good but not great. They finally got picture messaging, welcome to the world IPhone. I am excited for the release of the Droid because even if only ends up being 2/3 the phone the that IPone is, match that up with the most reliable network and the LARGEST 3G network, 5 TIMES the size of AT&T, this device will be unstopable when it comes to sales.

And by 2/3 you mean 99/100

Motorola Droid looks promising from the early Review that I read. It has much higher specs, a good processor, good camera with flash and loads of other things. http://www.taranfx.com/blog/motorola-droid

    Verizon is okay except:

3G does not support talk/data at the same time.
US Only (deal breaker for me)
Just as or more expensive than ATT
I don’t have any real issues with ATT

Okay, I’m an iphone owner, and I’m convinced Verizon has already screwed up the release of Droid.

They have started their television campaign, but I cannot find anything on the droid at motorola’s site, nor verizon’s. As far as I am concerned (as a consumer), the droid is just hype, and won’t come to be reality. If they are really going to sell this phone, where are the pics, the specs, and the sales marketing sites to show off what this phone is, any why I want it?

in marketing, you only have a short time to catch the consumers attention, and I has hooked, but there appears to be nothing at the end of this line…

If verizon is going to have any hope of steeling iphone users, from ATT, they need to break away from the all promise and no delivery mentality that iphone users are so fed up with. We need a solution now, not a promise of something that doesn’t exist.

obviously armand you do not have very good search skills on the internet…i was able to find tons of information on the droid…i will spell it out for you…phonescoop.com…search through the droid archives…it shows you pics and specs…att=crappy customer service and even worse connectivity… i left them for that reason and went to verizon and i dont drop calls…granted everyone has their own opinions about each carrier, thinking they know all when it comes to their carrier because they are biast and fear that their could be something better than what they have…truth is apple screwed themselves out of alot of money by giving exclusivity to att who has a horrible network…i know network engineers for att who use verizon blackberries…kinda says something there doesnt it…

Any idea if the Droid will support multi-touch capabilities? Its hard to call this an iPhone killer if it doesn’t have one of the basic abilities of the iphone.

  • Andrew

it’s called a viral marketing campaign.

    • uhnoo

Uhh, its not a viral ad campaign if its paid for and put on TV… Learn your marketing buddy, viral marketing involves propagation via consumers. Maybe if the video was posted on youtube and hotlinked at every blog imaginable, then it would be viral, however it is silly to call a regular, boring tv ad a viral ad.

You can’t find anything on their websites because it isn’t released yet duh. Why would they make a ‘fake’ ad about a phone. that doesnt make sense. Plus I know someone who works for google and they have confirmed that Verizon is coming out with an android. Its already better than the iphone because its not all touch and has a physical keyboard. I’ve been researching and eyeing this phone for a few months now and I’m very excited for it to come out.

any way thi goes it will b a nice upgrade from my old W755…..

ok i have been reading all the comments and i just wanna say for thoes people who do have iPhone’s that everyone is right the iPhone was too slow with coming up with the pic messaging and all the multimedia messaging and all im saying is that i agree that the MOTOROLA Droid is going to come out… why because i’m with verizon and i have asked verizon specialist and i have asked them because i am going to get a new phone and the guy told me seriously if i really want, wait to get a phone because the new one will be released (i can’t provide the date sorry but hope that convinces all you non-droid believers)

Will the Droid (Sholes) be a world phone?

  • vormund von himmel

@ Paul Marcarelli aka “The Verizon Guy”
I’m going to oppose you just because nobody is. how do we know that you are a part of Verizon you could be lying about your name? not saying you are lying I’m just saying that its a possibility. and also VZW network is better just for the fact that there aren’t as many 3g phones sucking at it constantly, as is with the AT&T network. so there I have challenged you. BAM

I wonder how much this is going to run…. It comes out on 11/09/09! That just so happens to be the day of my 2yr upgrade!!!

  • C3PO

  • http://boygeniusreport.com bob

how much will it cost i am guessing alot. but does anyone know how much it will really cost i have heard 600 but who would pay that much. i want one but thats to much and what if it has some technical problems when it come out?

  • leirachelle

    Hey Verizon Guy,
Is Verizon actually going to Alaska? I heard there is a company with a CDMA network that Verizon is rumored to take over. I’m sure there are lots of customers up there that could use some real help.

So the Droid releases this Friday, November 6th. And I can finally talk about it and I am not bound by my work contract anymore to keep the info a secret because the release date is so soon. I have personally used this phone, the perks of the job, and its AMAZING! The fastest processor I have experienced in a phone. We let 10 employees that have the ICRAP play with this phone and within TEN minutes everyone of them said they were ditching AT&T and getting the droid. The hype of the marketing actually worked because we had so many people calling and asking questions. We have had so many try to pre order that they are saying we will sell out of this phone in the first THREE hours!!!! This is actual numbers crunched from people saying they will buy this phone. I am hoping to be one of those people, I am buying two droids this friday myself. Good luck to everyone who wants one, hope you get yours this friday and that you wont have to wait. Motorola is working very hard to produce as many as possible but the demand is too high at this time.
