Sprint Treo Pro release date confirmed, now priced at $199

General

Talk about bumpy rides! The Treo Pro was supposed to hit Sprint in January. It didn’t — well it did, but it was pulled from the site very quickly as we learned its release had been delayed until February 15th. But wait… Something went wrong, again, and the Treo Pro was pushed back for a second time. Ouch. Thankfully, one of our ninjas came through with a whole mess of exclusive Sprint intel last month and specified a new launch date of March 15th. It looks like Sprint is a bit more confident this time around as well, since it actually press released the announcement. Want some more good news, Sprint fans? The carrier is shaving $50 from its initial price and will make the handset available for $199 after rebates. Who’s in?

@RyanH: No ‘company’ [outside of a 1-person operation, possibly] will have their IT convert them to the Pre. With virtually every viable app being a subscription [VS license] and data which is housed off-site without a secure backbone, no ‘company’ worth their salt will even consider such a change.

It’s a nice Razor-&-Blade business model for Palm [though about 15-years too late], but it will be hamstrung for the next 2-3 years minimum, regardless, with our economic depression as disposable income is being squirreled away rather than pissed away on Made-in-China plasti-crap. Our national solvency is clearly and rightly a higher priority than fun-n-games.

This 0.1 antiquated OS update is hardly worth it for those invested in a WinMo infrastructure, as 6.5 is being rolled out within months, domestically, while there is no guarantee that Sprint will support 6.5 [or beyond]. Smart business is not in the business of gambling.

Will this phone have the capability to use voice and data at the same time using CDMA? Palm has already confirmed that the Pre CDMA will not have this capability. I did hear rumors that the Pro will have this. Anyone? BG?

  • gbd

I think this is a solid Winmo offering (3.5mm jack & usb on a palm… makes Bono proud!). Personally i’m waiting for the pre (not a fan of winmo, but for some software its a requirement). As far as WebOS not functioning when not connected to internet… that incorrect, as I’m pretty sure has been mentioned before.

    @Santosh

It will not have the ability to utilize both Voice and Data. It’s not a phone limitation/feature, it’s a network limitation. CDMA, in its current implementation, cannot support simultaneous voice/data. Now if Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, etc. went EVDV instead of EVDO, we would have that luxury.

    Sprint already has the Fuze….

  • backbeat

^No. Sprint has the Touch Pro. Difference (besides crapware) is the keyboard.

  • Don Louie

The Fuze also doesn’t have as sufficient a 3G network like the Touch Pro, nothing but Sprint TV is on that phone and if you never use it you won’t notice any memory missing and won’t cause the device to crash either. Is that NFL Network envy

  • backbeat

^What is ‘sufficient’ for you [and your collection of online monikers] is particular to you, MrMultiLoginTrollingBitch. Clear?

  • backbeat

^Yet, your keen observation skills overlook the obvious? [snicker ;) ] Thanks for the laugh.

The difference is that I’m not married to any single carrier. Instead I realize they all have pluses and minuses which level them all at nearly the same performance level, assuming an intelligent decision about coverage and signal strength were made. The difference is that only certain resident SprintTrolls bother to regurgitate the same Koolade-soaked drivel over … and over … and over … and over …

As I’ve said many times, there is -no- problem with Sprint, in particular. There is only a problem with its resident ‘representatives’. Clear enough?

IDK where your at, but where I’m at the people in the store are very helpful. I have heard horror storys about the stores and customer service, but since I got on that new Simply Everything plan and they changed their billing system everything seems to be going well for myself and my girl (I can only speak for us two). I like them for that and the fact I get everything on my Curve for $107 including insurance. I checked Verizon same thing is over $160. I have coverage, so I dont see any negatives at least for me for Sprint. As far as this phone goes it looks cool, but I am to damn locked on the Pre.

  • PN2

“With the Pre coming so soon… why would anyone lock down for two years on the Treo Pro? ”

For the same reason 98% of smartphone buyers won’t buy the Pre, because it looks interesting but it is a bg fat unknown on dependability.

We don’t all want to be beta testers and given palm’s history of cack ups, and problem product rushed to market, especially recently, and the fact that it look like they will be able to afford three guys in Bangalore for support for the new OS, it is a needless risk to get the Pre in June or July, when it comes out, when it will only be cheaper and more stable in 12 months.

    @Adam: Why so morbidly oblique?

Other than your generic, promotional virtual-ad, got anything else to say?

  • Don Louie

There is nothing anybody says that will make buddy believe a person can really enjoy thier own personal experience with Palm/Sprint, maybe all the friend and associates got SERO under the old cheap terms but got denied so while they get off cheap buddy doesn’t and will discount all good things till they can be among those select few. Can it get back to Sprint being the 2nd American carrier to get this phone

  • ceejay

I wanted this. I wanted this pretty bad. Until the Pre was announced. Now I want a Pre badder.

  • backbeat

^^Spew your unfounded speculation all you like, idiot. I was asked a question … and it was truthfully answered. Something of which you lack the spine to do, MrMultiLoginTrollingBitch. :)

This blog post is about Sprint [finally] releasing the Treo Pro. Got related news or opinion focused on that? Go for it …
    ;)

  • Jim

Windows Mobile. End of argument. Wait for another phone.

  • backbeat

^I didn’t insult Adam “because he is content”, but for the reason I previously specified. As you change identities, are you losing your ability to comprehend also, Vinnie? ;)

This blog post -does- have a subject. That subject is not whose network is [subjectively] superior.

  • backbeat

^It’s not “rocket-surgery” to observe certain other compulsions and consistencies. You’re -quite- elementary/transparent. But, as I previously stated to Michael Bettiol, I welcome IP checks on those who involve themselves, including me. Your existence is the very definition of an unqualified troll.

  • Christian Calzo

    Too little to late.
    We want Pre. Not prehistoric.

  • Don Louie

There will be a bunch of people that will jump on this, it’ll be the best Centro yet

  • PN2

ceejay Said: “I wanted this. I wanted this pretty bad. Until the Pre was announced. Now I want a Pre badder.”

….And by the time the Pre comes out you will want something else “badder”

  • Don Louie

Well that’s how the game goes, funny that those 12M Alltel subs can get it now while vzw subs have to wait

  • Rell

Pythagoras it wouldnt make since for sprint to get the fuze they have the touch pro its the same phone they are suppose to be getting the G2 (magic also) and Tmoble doesnt carry Palm at all they had too many problems with them so they completly dropped the line they may change their mind when it coems to the pre tho but im gonna get the pro the pre is going to have tomany problems its a brand new OS its gonna have bugs much like the Iphone had problems for the 1st yr and a half or so by the time all the bugs are worked out they will have a new webos phone and ill be ready to renew my contract again pluse I dont like sliding keyboards kinda kiddy to me
