Don’t drop your BlackBerry Bold…

BG's Corner

In tears. Was unloading my car, opening the trunk with the Bold in the same hand as the one I was opening the trunk with. Then “BAM.” It fell out of my hand about two feet onto pavement. My life flashed before my eyes. I quickly went to rescue the Bold. This is what the damage was. Heading to CNN.cn to buy new parts. Hate my life. Hate the Bold build materials even more. Word of advice from your friend BGizzle? Buy a condom skin for the Bold. As big and ugly as it makes the device, you’ll appreciate it in the end. Unless you have a stockpile of five Bolds like we do, then you can just pop open a new box and you’re good to go. Hit the gallery if you want to see the beating that the Bold took…

    i once dropped my treo 750 about 4 ft onto a concrete floor, not a scratch, no performace issues.

    on another occasion my secondary razr v3xx while getting out of my SUV, another 3-4 ft drop and no scratch, no performance issue.

    and these are the 2 most despised phones on any online blog, but they stood the ultimate test.

    That just sucks man!! Not to sound too impatien anyword whether this will be an early release at the beg of september or a late month release.

    Oh is true that RIM is not even putting out a vertical holster for the new berry?!!

    So this is basically what all the 3G iPhone owners are screaming about, right? The fact that the EDGE and 3G radio (software stacks, etc) aren’t refined enough to seamlessly hop from one to another without calls being dropped, or signals being ‘lost’? This seems to be something that many devices suffer from. If someone lives in an area with strong 3G service, say, Los Angeles, can users manually ‘force’ the phone to stay on one frequency? Thanks BGR!

    You can turn 3G off completely.

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
    I still have my 2004 Nokia N-gage QD and it works perfectly
    I’ve dropped it from the 2nd story in a parking garage
    Dropped it in a bowl of milk and cereal
    Heck, even ran it over with a lawnmower
    You can’t kill it and I love it
    That and playing Red Faction on it

    @jerry

    seriously, grow up…

    anyways, boy genius i have a question.

    does the phone still work as if it was new regardless of the cosmetic damages?

    thank god for phone insurance plans.

    Are you sure that was from only 2 feet? hitting a funny angle in the pavement or something? ouch!
    My 8700 has been dropped MANY times from well over 2 feet and while it has a few nicks, it’s still solid and unbroke.
    I fear the build quality of these newer berry’s are not up to par. The 8700 is a tank and would have laughed off that paltry fall… and then sulked at it’s slow speed, low-res, no camera or gps or wifi……

    Boy, what a Genius!

  • Not A Seido Rep

    Does Seido have any of those hard plastic cases out yet for the Bold? My Curve would have died a horrible smashing death long ago without my little hybrid case.

    I’m so sorry that had to happen to you BG!

    I don’t even want to know how I’d react to that.

    But, I’m dropped my N95 from over 7ft onto tile [yes, on purpose; don't ask] and nothing happened to it.

    Another time, it flung out of my coat pocket onto conctrete when getting out of my friend’s Expedition, and again, nothing.

    Do you think the build/strength of the pre-release model is worse than that of the producition Bold?

  • Alice

    Does anyone know when Verizon will bring the Bold Out?

  • ChrisNYC

    @Jerry ….jackass

    Got the new bold and within 10 days it died on me. First started to load constanly with the waiting glass, then overheated, and finally would not turn on. DEAD! and no support!

  • Marvin

    well, I dropped my Bold too, just about a feet off the ground, with its stock leather case on,and guess what, the ground still managed to leave a chip on the underside rim of my blackberry bold! :(
