Two New Handsets Added to Nokia’s 6000 Series

The Nseries didn’t get all of Nokia’s love today in Barcelona. Two new 6000 series handsets were announced alongside a few other non-Nseries devices. Surprisingly, no new Eseries handsets made an appearance; we were certainly hoping to see the E71 on display but it looks like we’ll have to wait on that one, along with the other forthcoming device that has us drooling in anticipation. Pictured top-left and available in Q3 of this year, the 6220 Classic is our choice above the upcoming N78. The look of the device is hardly an improvement but it certainly has the goods to make up for it, barring the small battery and lack of US-HSDPA. A lower price tag of around $475 doesn’t hurt the 6220′s case either. Key specs:

  • Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band HSDPA (900/2100MHz)
  • 900mAh battery
  • 2.2″ QVGA display with 16M colors
  • 120MB internal memory, microSDHC card slot
  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and A2DP, 2.5mm audio port with TV-Out
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, Carl Zeiss optics with sliding lens protector, Xenon flash
  • aGPS (with automatic geotagging support)
  • Adaptive Multi Rate – Wideband speech coding technology

Pictured top-right and also available in Q3, the 6210 Navigator replaces the 6110 from last year and indeed provides some basic enhancements over its predecessor. In terms of design it’s a 6220 with a slider form-factor and the price will come in below the new Classic at about $440. Specs-wise is gets a resounding "eh" compared to other handsets announced today, but it does provide a fair amount of functionality for a relatively low S60 price point. The most interesting thing about the 6210 is the simultaneous announcement of not two, but three different HSDPA variants that will be released together! Key specs:

  • Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band HSDPA
    • HSDPA (900/2100MHz) or (850/2100MHz) or (850/1900MHz)
  • 2.4″ QVGA display with 16m colors
  • 950 mAh battery
  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and A2DP
  • 3.2 megapixel camera, secondary front-facing VGA cam for video calling
  • 120MB internal, microSDHC card slot
  • AGPS with Maps 2.0 and built-in geotagging
