Nintendo kills grandfathered support

We have to say that we’re shocked Nintendo has been providing service for these products for so long, but alas the day has come. Nintendo has put the final nail in the official support coffin for the NES, Super NES, N64, original Gameboy, and the Gameboy Pocket. Seriously. Up through last week, it seems that it was still possible to ship your old NES system into Nintendo for a full factory repair. While we’re guessing that the technicians did little more than pull out that rotting copy of Super Tecmo Bowl and blow on the contacts real hard, it’s still an amazing service. Imagine sending a Motorola StarTac in to the Moto servicing plant. Right. For anyone still in need of parts for that dusty old Nintendo system, chances are good that you’ll still be able to find them on eBay for the foreseeable future, but you can kiss that official support good bye.
