Although Google’s first-party Nexus phones have never received the same attention as some of their Android rivals, the company might be looking to give its hardware a leg up this time around with some exclusive software features.

DON’T MISS: Google’s new Nexus phones might look amazing after all

According to Android Police, the 2016 Nexus phones will get a new Settings menu layout, a “Night Light” feature and a “Quick screen check” to allow Nexus users to check notifications on their phone without waking it up.

In the images provided to Android Police, we can see that the new Settings menu has a white, grey and blue color palette, as well as a separate Support tab which should allow users to interact with the rumored Google Support app. If the rumors are true, Google Support will give Nexus owners the ability to screen share with customer support representatives when they run into issues.

Something called “Night Light” also appears in the menu of Nexus phones running Android Nougat. Google seemed to confirm that a night mode wouldn’t be ready in time for the release of Nougat, but it appears that Nexus users will be getting it in some form, at the very least.

Finally, ambient display is getting a significant upgrade by allowing users to double tap on the display when the phone is asleep in order to activate ambient display mode. Again, this could be a Nexus exclusive, or it might be a Nougat feature that will reach other smartphones as well. Either way, Nexus will get it first.
