Apple seems to be slowly pushing the MacBook Air into the deep end, with no updates in sight and the slimmer Retina MacBook threatening to upstage it. The writing might be on the wall, but really, that just means good sales for us.
B&H is selling the 13-inch Air with 128GB of storage for $750, and that price includes three years of AppleCare. That’s still one of the thinnest and lightest computers around, with years of guaranteed support, for $500 less than it should be.

The 13-inch Air was updated last year, so it’s not sporting top-of-the-line specs any more. In particular, the non-HD screen with large bezel looks dated compared to the competition, which use Full HD screens or better. You still get a 1.6GHz Core i5 and 128GB SSD. For an extra $80, you can upgrade to a 256GB SSD, which is a wise move if you’re planning on using the laptop for a while.
My only hesitation — and the only reason I’m not buying one right now — is the 4GB of RAM, which will cause some suffering if you have a tabs problem in Chrome. But the counterpoint is great battery life, thanks to the lower specs and worse-resolution screen.
In any case, for a lightweight laptop to take notes, write essays, work on presentations or just watch Netflix, it’s a hard one to beat, especially since Macbooks tend to hold value so well. B&H only has limited stock, so you’d be wise to pull the trigger soon.
