HTC is in really bad shape right now but Google could potentially throw it a lifeline. Via Droid Life, a new rumor posted on Weibo claims that Google is going to have HTC produce not just one, but two new Nexus devices this year. The rumor only states that HTC will make a device with a 5-inch display and a device with a 5.5-inch display and it doesn’t reveal any additional specs. All the same, it’s safe to assume both new devices will run on the next version of Android that will be unveiled at Google I/O this year.

FROM EARLIER: Google is rolling out a smart new Android feature that iPhone users will never get

While some Android fans have soured on HTC over the past year thanks to its disappointing HTC One M9 and its iPhone 6 ripoff One A9, a new pair of Nexus phones could be just what the doctor ordered to rehabilitate its brand. HTC still makes fantastic hardware and this time Google will be calling the shots on specifications and software. What’s more, Google will likely insist that the camera quality of the device at least be as good as what we saw this year with the Nexus 6P, which was by far the best camera we’ve ever seen on a Nexus phone.

This is still definitely a rumor for the time being, but as someone who absolutely loved the HTC One M7 and M8, I would love to see what the company can do with a new Nexus phone.
