When Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this past September, there were almost no surprises left. The phones’ “boring” new design had leaked months ahead of the event, as it always does, and nearly all of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus’s new features had already been revealed by insiders. We knew about the new cameras, we new about the new components, and of course we knew that the 3.5mm headphone jack would no longer be included on the new iPhones. The biggest surprise ended up being a second new color option for Apple’s 2016 iPhones.

The matte black color that replaced Space Gray had already leaked, and there were murmurs of a possible new deep blue color coming to the iPhone 7. Instead, Apple revealed a stunning new Jet Black color with a glossy, mirror-like finish. The new color is so popular that it’s still next to impossible to walk into a store and buy a Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus. And since it’s so popular, it goes without saying that Samsung was going to do everything in its power to copy it as quickly as possible.

It’s actually beyond impressive how quickly Samsung was able to rip Apple off this time around. Could it be that the company had a head start since it’s so deeply embedded in the supply chain? Who knows, but Apple’s iPhone 7 was unveiled just two months ago and Samsung is already on the verge of launching its own version of Apple’s Jet Black finish.

According to a series of leaked photos posted to Weibo that were picked up by Samsung fan blog SamMobile, Samsung has a new version of its Galaxy S7 edge smartphone that will come in an extra glossy black color. Samsung’s flagship smartphone for the second half of the year was discontinued due to a little problem with spontaneous explosions, so the company is left trying to spice up its older smartphones in an effort to salvage anything it can this holiday season. We’ve already seen a new Blue Coral color option for the S7 edge, and now it looks like Jet Black (or whatever Samsung ends up calling it in an effort to pretend it wasn’t inspired by Apple) is next in line.

A few of the leaked images follow below.
