Research In Motion this week revealed a limited-time offer that aims to bolster sales of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to enterprise customers. Between now and December 31st, BlackBerry business customers who purchase two PlayBook tablets from an authorized reseller will get a third PlayBook for free. They will also receive one free premium accessory for every two PlayBook tablets purchased, and they may choose from a black leather sleeve, a charging pod or a 6-foot HDMI cable. While some find that RIM’s PlayBook gets the job done as a recreational tablet, business customers may not share that opinion. BGR exclusively reported on Tuesday that RIM would be delaying the OS 2.0 update that will bring email and other PIM services to the device until next year. RIM confirmed our report later that evening, and also confirmed that standalone BBM capabilities would not be included in the February software release. More →
Just one week after the nation’s No. 1 carrier finally unleashes its iPhone 4 on the world, Verizon Wireless may have another handset launch waiting in the wings. Granted, with HP’s webOS event less than a week away and the possibility of exciting new tablets and smartphones dancing through our heads, it’s not easy to get excited about an incremental upgrade from last year’s debut webOS phone. Granted, the Palm Pre 2 offers some nice improvements over its predecessor, such as a faster processor, a glass screen and the new webOS 2.0 operating system — but you’ll forgive us if a 3.1-inch display and that teeny tiny QWERTY keypad don’t exactly get our engines revving here in 2011. On the other hand, we do absolutely love the webOS operating system and $99.99 is a fair price point for Palm’s latest phone, especially if there’s a BOGO sale involved. If the screen shot above pans out, expect Verizon to finally let this little guy loose on February 17th. More →
AT&T and Microsoft want to brighten your holidays while simultaneously lightening your pockets, but wise shoppers will likely look elsewhere. AT&T is offering up a free Samsung Focus, HTC Surround or LG Quantum on Black Friday when one of the aforementioned Windows Phones is purchased at full retail, or $199.99. Of course they’re all great phones, but online retailers like Amazon already have that deal beat. AmazonWireless is offering the Focus, Surround and Quantum for $49.99 each and you don’t even have to wait until Friday to order. The retailer also throws free shipping and waived activation fees into the mix. So really, the only reason to go for AT&T’s deal at twice the price of Amazon’s is if the Focus strikes your fancy — Samsung’s WP7 handset is backordered at Amazon and likely won’t start shipping again for a couple of weeks. One of our Sprint sources just shot us over some internal slides on a couple of the company’s upcoming product launches. While the BlackBerry Style 9670 was recently launched on October 31st, it seems RIM and Sprint just can’t wait to move these bad boys, as starting November 26th, the BlackBerry Style will be available in a buy one get one free promotion. According to the slide, it seems that there isn’t a limit on the amount of free additional BlackBerry Styles you can purchase as long as you are activating all new lines or two year agreements.
Switching to the Sanyo Taho, it’s a previously unheard of rugged 3G handset which meet military grade specifications. It’s due to launch on December 9th for $99.99 and packs a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, MP3 player, expandable microSD slot and more. If you’re in an Android kind of mood and feeling crazy, the LG Optimus S in purple is still set for November 21st launch as had been previously reported.
Dell’s Inspiron 11z netbook is also on tap for a November 14th release and clocks in at $149.99 at the register. If that’s too much for your pockets, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1012) is available for free on the same date. We have all the product information images loaded up in our gallery ready to go for your enjoyment.

Verizon Wireless just hit us up with information on a new promotion that it is launching today for the Palm Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus. The Pre Plus will drop to the ultra-low price of $49.99 while the Pixi Plus will bottom out at $29.99. As we all know, two is better than one, and both handsets will be eligible for Verizon’s well-known BOGO sale. As always, both handsets will require a two year agreement to get this pricing. Still not intrigued? How about this, Verizon has dropped the price of the webOS mobile hotspot service to $0 (from $40) for both new and current customers. Wow! We’ve been told that the “free hotspot” offering will not be advertised on the web right away, however: “customers who purchase the device will be told of the free “hotspot.”
UPDATE: Looks like current Pre and Pixi customers can add this feature for $0 as well! More →
Yesterday we reported Verizon was going to kick off an Android and webOS BOGO sale today, but we missed a pretty big point — the BOGO sale also includes all BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphones as well as Verizon’s entire line-up of 3G multimedia phones and 3G internet devices. Yessir, this is one darn big sale. The question is, do you really need that new phone? More →
One of our connects hit us up with information on a new Verizon Wireless Buy One, Get One Free promotion. The BOGO this time around sweetens the deal by including all of Big Red’s Android and Palm webOS handsets. That means if you buy a Motorola DROID, a HTC DROID Eris, a Palm Pre Plus or a Pixi Plus you are eligible for a second handset of equal or lesser value for free. You can mix and match the above handsets with each other or step outside your comfort zone and pick up a Windows Mobile phone or a feature phone for free. The promotion starts tomorrow on the 16th, so if you are looking to score the latest Android or webOS handset from Verizon you may want to wait a day and find a friend who wants to go in with you on this offer. Like all BOGO offers, two year agreements are required.
Not much else to report other that what’s in the title. Verizon will be having a buy one get one free promotion on the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi Plus, a deal that will run from launch day through February 14th, Valentines Day. All you webOS fanatics grab a friend or four and get ready to head to your local Verizon Wireless store starting January 25th if you’re up for some Palm-style multitasking. Besides, the handsets ship with Touchstone-compatible back covers — you know we’re all about inductive charging.
T-Mobile definitely has some tricks up its sleeve this holiday season as we just received word that retail stores are offering a buy-one-get-one free special for any smartphone. You heard us correctly: any smartphone. All you have to do is activate two new lines to qualify for the promotion. This means you can pick up a BlackBerry 9700 and get a myTouch 3G for free, or buy a Touch Pro 2 and get a BlackBerry 8520. Or buy a Sidekick… just kidding. But you get the idea. Before you send us a flood of hate mail, this offer does vary region by region. For example, T-Mobile retail stores in NYC are definitely offering this promotion, but stores in L.A. are not. However, some retail stores said they’re always willing to price match competitors and other T-Mobile locations. All you need is proof that other retail stores are offering this promotion because some stores haven’t heard of this, and that shouldn’t be too difficult. Let us know how it goes for you!
If you are looking to score a DROID and a DROID Eris for you and your loved one, you now have until Christmas Eve to make this oh-so-important holiday purchase. Starting today and extended until December 24th, Verizon Wireless is offering the DROID Eris as part of its popular Buy One, Get One Free promotion. Just like last time, if you buy a DROID or a DROID Eris, you are eligible to receive a DROID Eris for free. As always, a new two year customer agreement for each handset required. Or, you could always enter our DROID giveaway. One free DROID is better than a DROID and an Eris for $199, no?
Thanks to all our connects who hit us up. More →
No more speculation — we’ve got the low down on that Verizon Wireless DROID/Eris buy one get one free sale that was rumored to start on Friday. From December 4th to the 7th, if you buy one DROID or DROID Eris, you can get one DROID Eris for free after rebate. Sorry folks, no free Motorola DROIDs on BOGO this time. If you are in the market for a feature phone, a BOGO promotion for the LG enV Touch and the enV3 also starts on Friday and extends though December 25th. So don’t bother making that trip to your local Verizon Wireless store tonight, put that plastic back in your wallet and sleep on it one more night. Pleasant dreams!
