Apple on Monday unveiled iOS 8, its next major mobile operating system, which will bring several important features, including new notifications, widgets support, a smarter keyboard and support for third-party keyboards, Touch ID support for third-party apps, but also new health-related features.
While iOS 8 beta will be available to developers starting today, not all existing iOS devices will be able to run the new iOS version.
Apple’s Craig Federighi revealed on stage that the iPhone 4 will finally be left out of Apple’s iOS update cycle. The oldest iOS device to support iOS 8 will be the iPhone 4s.
The list of iOS devices that will support iOS 8 also includes iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display.
Obviously, Apple’s unannounced 2014 iOS devices will also run iOS 8 when they’ll be launched this fall.
