The United States Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday published a patent application from Apple (AAPL) that may reveal features for its next-generation Smart Cover, Patently Apple reported. The Cupertino-based company’s future iPad cover may incorporate a flexible AMOLED display that is used to augment the main display with additional space. It might even have the ability to be used as a full keyboard, similar to Microsoft’s (MSFT) Surface tablet. The new Smart Cover would finally live up to its name and support features such as multi-touch, and it could even include a solar panel that could be used for charging. The cover would connect to an iPad through magnets and would also use MagSafe-like connectors that could supply the case with both data and power.
