Less than a week ago, we were unconvinced by the rumors of Apple developing its own car, but it’s impossible to ignore the mounting evidence.
We’ve already seen two videos of the Apple car prototype in action, taking the form of an unassuming minivan with some incredibly conspicuous roof-mounted machinery, and now AppleInsider has received high-resolution photos from one of its readers that managed to get up close and personal with the car.

These photos were apparently captured in a parking lot in Richmond, California, just a few miles from Apple’s Cupertino campus. Like the other prototypes, this vehicle looked to be a stock Dodge Caravan with California plates. It also featured the same crazy contraption strapped to its roof.
No one knows exactly what all that contraption features, but one report from earlier this month speculated that it might be equipped with LiDAR sensors, GPS antennas and at least six cameras. This could be the next step for Apple’s mapping initiative, one which has received its fair share of criticism over the years.
There’s still not much substantial information to work with, but we’re sure to see more footage and photos of the prototypes in the coming weeks now that everyone knows what to look for.
