Nearly two decades after development began on a sequel to Ridley Scott’s beloved science fiction film, Blade Runner 2049 is finally a reality. On Monday morning, Warner Bros. Pictures shared an announcement teaser, giving us our first glimpse at Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the film.
The trailer doesn’t give much away, but we do get to see what has become of the world in the 30 years that have passed since the events of the original Blade Runner. We also get a release date:
“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
Although Ridley Scott was originally attached to direct the sequel as well, he has since moved into a producing role, while Arrival director Denis Villeneuve will helm the project in place of Scott. Other actors starring in the sequel include Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto. Quite an eclectic cast.
I also want to point out that with Harrison Ford and Dave Bautista in the same movie, this might be the closest we ever come to a Star Wars/Marvel crossover happening on the big screen, so enjoy it.
Alcon Entertainment’s Blade Runner 2049 arrives in theaters on October 6th, 2017.
