In the wake of the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, and with a lot riding on the Galaxy S8, Samsung is trying to crack down on leaks of company information and strategy. To outline this new policy of tight-lipped secrecy, Samsung sent an email to Samsung executives and employees.
Naturally, this email was immediately leaked to a newspaper.

According to the Korea Herald, the email reminded employees that “leaks of operational secrets can cause irreversible ramifications, posing a great financial risk on the company and leading to broken partnerships and loss of trust.”
Numerous reports and leaks have embarrassed Samsung over the past few weeks, mostly relating to the mess of a situation surrounding the Galaxy Note 7. The fires with the phones are PR problem enough, but reports about Samsung’s flawed in-house battery testing really do, ahem, fuel the flames.
Then there’s also the matter of the upcoming Galaxy S8. With the Galaxy Note 7 a total writeoff for the company (and an expensive one at that), there’s a lot riding on a phone that Samsung is set to release in a few months.
Leaks of details of the Galaxy S8 (like, say, this) don’t help Samsung plan a perfect launch that will maximize publicity and profit. The iPhone 7, for example, was so heavily leaked in advance that nothing on the day was really surprising.
So far, Samsung has managed to avoid any major leaks about the Galaxy S8. But with the launch date getting closer and closer, it’s going to take a lot of clever work to make sure nothing gets leaked. Better hope Samsung doesn’t send another circular email with “GALAXY S8 PHOTOS — DO NOT LEAK.”
