For the longest time, I’ve been looking for the perfect carry-on bag. It needs to have plenty of available space so that you can easily squeeze in a few days’ worth of clothes, but also a decent numberof compartments for all my gadgets and the cables that go with them, as well as extra travelling accessories. Oh, and there must be space for shoes. I should be able to open it easily for security checks, and put it back together just as fast. Finally, I’d like to be able to carry it as a backpack most of the time, so my hands are free.
Not a long or demanding list then! Luckily, it looks like Kickstarter is on it.

I’ve seen a slew of very interesting travel bag projects on Kickstarter, some of them offering smart solutions to some of our problems. The Nomatic Travel Bag isn’t smart that way – it doesn’t come with built-in GPS or an external battery for your mobile devices.
But it’s certainly assembled in a very smart way that would allow you actually to add such items in concealed side pockets.
With 29 days left in the Kickstarter campaign, the Nomatic Travel Bag is already a hit. More than 3,600 people pledged over $650,000 for it, which is a huge amount of cash for a project that wanted to raise just $20,000. The cheapest bag costs $169 (retail price will be $200), and ships at some point next January.
What’s cool about this piece of luggage is that it can be carried in duffel bag mode, and in backpack mode, and it only takes a few seconds to make the switch. The bag contains a large number of pockets along the sides, each one having a specific purpose, so you can neatly organize all your belongings. If you need to pack even more clothes, a vacuum bag is included to help you compress them.
There’s a shoe compartment, a waterproof water bottle pocket, electronics pockets, an RFID-safe pocket locked with a TSA approved lock, and dedicated laptop and tablet pockets that are readily accessible, and always secured into place. Furthermore, the whole thing is made of waterproof material (tarpaulin), including the zippers, so your electronics and clothes stay dry at all times.
How could the Nomatic Travel Bag be any better than that? Well, it could have a wheel system in place, which would make it even more convenient to carry around – check out the following video for more details about it.
