Can you imagine where we would be today if not for Google search? Say what you will about Google being “evil,” but there’s no company on Earth right now that plays a more pivotal role in connecting people with information. Google is always improving its many apps and services, of course, and the latest update to the company’s core consumer-facing product — search — will make searching for answers on your Android phone or iPhone a much better experience.

Some people like to talk about how smartphones and tablets are as powerful as computers and have eliminated the need for PCs in many cases. Those people have apparently never tried to open a website that hasn’t been designed for mobile on a smartphone.

In some cases when web page designs are simple, viewing desktop sites on a phone is a decent experience. When there are bells and whistles or a great deal of information involved, however, it’s typically an awful experience.

As noted on Google’s Webmaster Central Blog on Tuesday, Google is about to roll out a simple change to search results pages on mobile searches that will have a big impact for users. Beginning at some point in the next few weeks, Google will begin highlighting web pages that are designed for mobile consumption in its search results for all searches performed on mobile devices.

Here’s an example of what you can expect from a search result leading to a page that has been optimized for mobile:
