A federal judge on Friday hit Apple with a permanent injunction for conspiring with book publishers to fix eBook prices. Reuters reports that the injunction is intended to bar Apple from further antitrust violations, and it will prevent Apple from entering into “agreements with five major U.S. publishers that would impede its ability to reduce e-book retail prices or offer price discounts.” In addition to the injunction, Judge Denise Cote reportedly ordered Apple to hire a compliance monitor who will supervise the company’s efforts to comply with her order. The final judgement will expire after five years but may be extended if necessary, and it comes after Apple was found guilty of conspiring to fix eBook prices this past July.
