HTC Wildfire 2 surfaces in official HTC video?

In a brief video clip on HTC’s official YouTube page, the Taiwanese company provided us with a glimpse of a phone that, up to this point, we hadn’t ever seen before. The stout handset in question bears a strong resemblance to the already available Wildfire and makes a two-second cameo before disappearing into the ether. We’re not sure if we’ll be seeing this set at next week’s Mobile World Congress (as the Wildfire 2?), in the weeks to follow, or ever again. It is a mystery waiting to be solved. Have a look at the video after the jump and let us know what you think it is or isn’t.

The existence of this next handset is very much a rumor, but it’s a rumor that is almost too good to ignore. Blog AndroidandMe, quoting a “regular source who has provided accurate information about several Android announcements in the past,” is reporting that HTC’s first dual-core, Android handset will be a T-Mobile offering by the name of the HTC Pyramid. Aside from a 1.2GHz, dual-core, Snapdragon processor (MSM8260), the handset will also boast a 4.3-inch qHD display and should be available sometime in May. We’re going to do some digging of our own and see if we can confirm this tasty little rumor with our own sources. We’ll be sure to report back with what we find. More →

Sprint reminds you it is working on Epic 4G Froyo update

It looks like T-Mobile’s planned release of Android 2.2 for the Samsung Vibrant has other carriers attention. Via its official Twitter account, Sprint has felt the need to remind you that it is “working to release Froyo for the Epic,”and that this update is coming “ASAP,” but has to meet “rigorous testing criteria.” T-Mobile may be the fourth largest carrier in the U.S., but they were, to their credit, the first to market with this major update. Samsung unveiling Galaxy S sucessor February 13th at Mobile World Congress

An invite is being sent out to media outlets the world over, taunting the reader with phrases like: “evolution is fate” and “something big is coming.” The summons also notes that before the February 13th reveal, there will be a “preview teaser” available on February 1st. We’re hoping this evolution has Android 2.3 as part of its fate. More on this as it develops. More →

AT&T cuts iPhone 4 refurb prices, now $99 with activation

Didn’t get that iPhone 4 you were so hoping to receive for Christmas? AT&T Wireless is offering up some new pricing on refurbished iPhone 4 units, and it is pretty spectacular. AT&T has cut $50 off the price of the iPhone 4, making the total price with new two year activation just $99 for a 16GB unit. If you’re alright with taking one with a “cosmetic blemish,” you’ll be able to snag one for just $79. Again, these are refurbished units (usually returned or exchanged items that have been quality tested and then reboxed), but if you have been waiting for the right time to hop on the iPhone train, this is one of the best offers we have seen. Here is all the new pricing from AT&T:

  • iPhone 4 16GB — $99
  • iPhone 4 32GB — $199
  • iPhone 4 16GB with cosmetic blemish — $79

AT&T: Motorola Olympus to launch in December/January? [Updated]

AT&T: Motorola Olympus to launch in December/January? [Updated]

According to whomever is operating the AT&T Share Facebook page, the Motorola Olympus — a dual-core, Tegra 2, Android handset — is due to be release in the very near future. One of our faithful readers pinged AT&T on Facebook inquiring as to when the beast of a handset would be released on Ma’ Bell. The company’s response was rather surprising: “The Motorola Olympus should be available in December or January.” That is the first public acknowledgement of the device’s existence by the nation’s second largest wireless carrier.

As we don’t have to explain to any Android fan currently with AT&T, the company has yet to bring a true, flagship, Android handset to market. Hopefully, with the release of the Olympus, Ma’ Bell can eradicate that not-so-stellar factoid. We’ve reached out to AT&T for comment and will update this post with any additional information provided. What do you think?

Thanks, Scott!

UPDATE: We’re not sure what this means, but AT&T has deleted the response from its Facebook page.

UPDATE 2: Here is AT&T’s official statement regarding the posting: “This response was posted erroneously. We don’t have any information to share about upcoming devices.”

Motorola’s first Tegra 2 handset photographed?

Motorola’s first Tegra 2 handset photographed?

The above photograph has been making its way around the technology blogosphere for the past several hours. What we are — allegedly — looking at is an image of Motorola’s first Tegra 2 handset, the Olympus. Purportedly, the device is a dual-core, Android set with a screen size of at least 4-inches; it is also rumored to find a home on either AT&T or Verizon Wireless. If you squint, it looks like the device pictured also contains a front facing camera, which we’re sure will become standard fare on all future high-end smartphones in 2011. There isn’t really much more to be deduced from the image and, unfortunately, the anonymous hand pictured was pretty stingy with specific details. Let us know what you think. More →

HTC phone wielding CDMA and WiMAX radios crosses the FCC’s desk

It looks like an HTC handset packing both CDMA and WiMAX radios has made its way to the FCC. Unfortunately, we’re not treated to any additional information about the aforementioned mystery device. Now, we’re assuming it will be headed to Sprint due to the radio combinations but not even that is a sure thing. Could this be the successor to the EVO 4G? We’re going to see what we can dig up, in the mean time let the speculation begin.
