Microsoft to drop Zune Music Pass to $10 per month on October 3rd

mobile

Microsoft will lower its Zune Music Pass from $14.99 per month to $9.99 per month beginning on October 3rd alongside the service’s launch in Canada. The service will now be priced in line with Spotify and similar services. Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace is home to 14 million songs and a Zune Music Pass subscription provides unlimited streaming access to the music. Unlike other services, Zune Music Pass allows subscribers to keep 10 songs per month. Microsoft’s move is no doubt an effort to attract customers who might otherwise but attempted to join a number of competing music subscription options including Spotify, Rdio, Rhapsody and even Apple’s upcoming iCloud service. Zune Music Pass subscribers can access their playlists and library from any Windows Phone, a PC or from an Xbox 360 console.

Umm.  Did you even read the article?  ” Unlike the current Zune Music Pass offering, it will not include 10 MP3s to keep each month.”

“Unlike other services, Zune Music Pass allows subscribers to keep 10 songs per month.”

Either BGR updated without an “*edit” or your comment is off.

Inaccurate reporting, messy tags: 10″ and month? Really?  Smh…

With this new plan you can download and stream music to up to four devices (1 PC + any combination of PC, Zune device and Windows Phone). You can get unlimited streaming on any Xbox 360, Zune desktop software, Silverlight supported browser via Zune.net provided that you are logged in. Also, they added unlimited music video streaming via the Zune desktop software and Xbox 360. The 10 free songs will no longer be part of the plan.

If you currently have a subscription you will be grandfathered into them once the new plans hit. As long as you don’t cancel you will be able to keep your plan.

So whats everyone think will Microcrap screw this up or will they actually slowly develop something that could be useful in the future?

I can’t help it think that this would have been better reported on if it had been an Apple story, followed by an in depth story on how it would effect peoples lives by each one of the BGR writers.

Will this work on the Sonos system?

“Windows Phone, a PC or from an Xbox 360 console”

That’s the problem right there. If it’s not available on Android/iOS, it’s not really competitive in the current market regardless of the pricing. I use my phone for basically all my music, especially when out walking or in my car.

What an awesome music system.  I can tell the people who are slamming this have never tried it!  NEVER!  It’s one thing to comment and say – I’ve been using this program for 6mths or a year and I find it to be lacking of this or that.  But people are commenting on something you can clearly tell they have no idea of what they’re talking about.  It’s maddening to read chatter that’s worthless.

For those of you who have never tried Zune get a free 14 day pass and enjoy the magic!
