Chrome for tablets caught on film [video]

Software

Google’s Chrome OS was originally designed as a lightweight operating system for devices such as netbooks, which have a constant internet connection. The search giant already has Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) and will soon offer Android Ice Cream Sandwich for tablets but apparently that hasn’t stopped Google from optimizing a version of Chrome OS for use on slates. One developer named Francois Beaufor has leaked a video that reveals a hint of what Chrome OS on a tablet might look like. The video shows a quick look at the touchscreen keyboard, an example of the web browser in action and support for voice-based search. As Business Insider points out, it might make a lot more sense for Google to just build a top-notch Chrome browser for Android instead of porting its OS to tablets. Many believe Google’s Android offering is fragmented enough as it is. Hit the break for a quick video clip.

Looking forward to Google’s whiney “competitors are trying to stifle Chrome OS innovation” blog post.

More BGR BS… If you go to XDA, you can find Ubuntu running on a Galaxy Tab also… I dont see an article about that though…

Maybe Google is going to release a Ubuntu for tablets and Chromium for tabs??

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

Google won’t be releasing Ubuntu. Ubuntu will release itself. It’s not owned by Google and is true open source. You wouldn’t know that though since you are a mindless fanDROID.

Google’s trying to fragment their platforms even more! Nice! Keep confusing your customers Android/Google. At least 75% of these companies look like they’ve pushed the “self-destruct” button on their business’. Oh well! lol

      Unfortunately idiots love fragmentation

I love how i can install whatever I want on my android that directly competes with google’s products, install banned apps from the Android Store, hack it however I want, put ubuntu on it if I want, run flash content, and copy my mp3s and movies to my removable SD card and play any format I want.

What’s that? Oh I’m sorry, you can’t do that on your mac? Why not? Oh right, because you’re a mac tool.

we don’t need another OS from Google to run on our tablets, we need the current versions to be better. We also need the market updated do we can rate apps, a basic feature that we are lacking.

Improve the browser keyboard lag, fix sdcard write on the xoom, etc

Why would a touchscreen tablet have a mouse cursor?  isn’t this clearly fake?

  • Anonymous

It might be big but it’s NOT for tablets. Notice the mouseover actions used for scrolling that dropdown menu. Would NOT work on a touchscreen tablet.

this looks like it might just be Meego with chrome running.
