Microsoft slips: 'Mango' update will be Windows Phone 7.5

Software

It looks as though Microsoft has accidentally confirmed that its next major Windows Phone update, dubbed Mango, will bring the mobile operating system up to version number 7.5. The information comes courtesy of the Redmond company’s website, which prompts developers to “Preview the Next Windows Phone OS 7.5.” Mango is expected to launch in late-fall of this year and was originally thought to be Windows Phone 7.1. The update will bring with it true multitasking, Internet Explorer 9, and an integrated Twitter experience — among other things. Microsoft has yet to issue an official statement on how the operating system’s version number schema will progress.

Wether it is Windows Mobile 7.1, Windows Mobile 7.5, or Windows Mobile 21; it will still be behind all other Mobile Operating Systems and still will be a major FAIL!!!

This is a pretty close-minded way of viewing things. Without even ever using Mango, you’re already bashing on it. How would you truly feel if you used it and actually liked it?

I used Windows Mobile before any of you, from 2002 to 2010, Microsoft never got it right and let the mobile market slip through their fingers. In fact, Windows Mobile evolved in iterations 2002, 2003, 2003SE, but devolved thereafter and has been on an accelerated fall to Earth ever since the release of Windows Mobile 5.

That’s cool that you have used every version of WinMo through version 5.

Windows Phone 7 is nothing like any of those. You should check it out sometime. It’s pretty nice.

        @Brad Dobbs
Slight misinference on your part, I used Windows Mobile through 2010, therefore, that would also include Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1, 6.5, respectively. And, yes all versions were greatly flawed and lacking important features.

Android 2.2 does everything the previous versions of Windows Mobile could not and I discovered that with my first Android phone, the EVO.

But, in all fairness, you have a point, I will make it a point this week to play with a Windows Mobile 7 device; I just can’t get passed those god awful tiles. But, I’ll try nevertheless.

      • Senor Chang

        First Android device the EVO?

Ohhh….so wait…. let’s think about this. You swear allegiance to Android based on a device that got released 3 years and about 3 versions after after Android 1.0′s inauguration.

I already know your excuse though… you’re a Sprint user and there was no Android device available prior to the EVO.

So hey… wait another 3 years and then see what WP7 phones Sprint has… then comment.

I would never discount an Android device based on my experiences w/ 1.0 – 1.6, that’s just retarded. Its quite obvious that Android has made leaps and bounds since those versions. I do judge hardware based on prior experience though… which is why I trust HTC and Nokia above all. OS is just software. All will change, all will update, and all will improve.

You know, every time I see you I can only think of all of those poor little orphaned girls who got thrown out on the street because your parents were waiting for something with testicals. And, sadly and ironically, you seemed to have been born without them or a brain. You make me want to startup an orphanage.

BTW, do you ever make any sense?

    • Anitra

You are such an ignorant retard. Wm7 is very fluid and has immense potential.

And, I bet you switched from a Blackberry?

        Ad-Droid stop being an ass.

    • Anonymous

I’m sure you wouldn’t like it if all your ex-girlfriends discussed all your shortcomings to any future girl, discussing what a fail you were from 2002-2010 and then never getting even a conversation because you were already labeled a failure.

Considering you have never even tried their largest venture into the mobile world of today how can you formulate the opinion based on previous experiences on an OS that doesn’t even come close to what it is now?

      • Anonymous

Well my dear fellow, I’m sorry but as a consumer you are saying that you would continually buy a product even if it didn’t meet your expectations or standards? Especially, and even, if a competitor offered a similar or better product within the same pricepoint; you would just keep giving your money to the first company and accept an unsatisfactory and inadequate product??? That makes alot of consumer sense.

      • http://twitter.com/xFallbachox M@rT!n

Your whole reply is based on opinions. “unsatisfactory, inadequate, didn’t meet your expectations”

I think if that’s how you feel about a product then move on but the way you feel about a product doesn’t mean that everyone else shares your same views.

I have been using windows mobile for a while now( not win phone 7) and I enjoy it. I tried android while its appealing to some its not my cup of tea.

I think (my opinion) that android is a more media centric phone while win phone is more productivity (no real eye catching moving wallpapers etc.) centric product.

Basically if you like android then enjoy, but don’t bash win phone 7 because you don’t like it especially when you never tried the new rebuilt for the ground up design.

We get it you like android and you want everyone the feel the same bubbly feeling android give you when you use it but in reality most people may prefer the bubbly feeling they get from win phones.

        cheers.

Just got back, that was fun. I’ll do it again tomorrow. Thanks for the idea.

That looks like a lemon to the left side of the picture.

If you look very closely, they’re all lemons and they’re stamped with an expiration date of 7.5!!

    Wait… Mango?

  • Ast

I see people giving the judgement even before they have seen the product. This is nothing but biased opinion.

Why is it called Mango? Since the previous update was “No Do”…should this be “Man Go”?

  • @j_nathaniel

Hopefully MS will figure out a way for me to be able to do more with video taken with the HD7…aside from just syncing to a computer. What is the point in just going with a smartphone for a trip when that phone cannot send anything back home?

  • henry earl

“Microsoft has yet to issue an official statement on how the operating system’s version number schema will progress.”

or reveal how many devices will be disowned through arbitrary lockouts of updates…

  • madiha malik

This is a appealing close-minded way of examination things. Without alike anytime application Mango, you’re already bashing on it. How would you absolutely feel if you acclimated it and absolutely admired it?

    • AnonGuy

This os is a piece of shit. I have an hd7 and it is less useful than a featurephone for the first year of ownership. Wp7 is a huge failure as things stand rite now.

Waiting for a good webos device now…

If the BB Playbook is half baked, what is Windows Phone 7?

  • Mmmm…

Sounds like Google will have to go with Marshmallow or Marzipan since Microsoft took Mango.

  • Lemons

    Those aren’t mangos!

I went from using an IPhone to Windows Phone 7. It may not be up to where the IPhone is considering the IPhone has been out for years and it’s on its 4th Gen. but I do love the speed of the downloads, the fluid UI and it’s clever use of apps. This is Microsoft’s new baby and I can pretty much tell that it’s going to evolve to something better. Will it catch up with IPhone and Android? I think it will. whether you like Microsoft or not, they have made many improvements to its Xbox 360 Dashboard, Windows OS, Internet Explorer and now its Windows Phone OS. Do not under estimate the sleeping giant. Right now I hear talk about Android this and IPhone that, but they don’t have it right either. There is more to be gained for a phone that uses apps as a basis of having that phone. Yet I find the whole idea of getting in and out of an app in a quick and user friendly way that makes Android and IPhone seem primitive. Those who have never owned or even had time to use Windows Phone 7 should not assume anything. Basing your experiences on Android or IPhone without having to even touch a Windows phone or even going with a bias web site does not give you the experience. Like I said, I had an IPhone for a long time. I loved it, but when I moved to Windows Phone 7, I knew that I was in for something new and different. I also knew that it was not going to be far along as the IPhone, but don’t miss my IPhone, Not at all. I am very content with the Windows Phone. It lacks the apps I would like to see, but they are coming along just fine. There are apps that Iphone does not have that I love. Mango (Windows Phone 7.5), it’s only to make the phone that much better.

    • Average User

I have to agree with you. I am an Android owner right now so I can’t say Windows Phone 7 is a fail. Windows Phone 7 has some appeal to me like the way Facebook is integrated with the OS. Also I do like the way they use the Bing searches. When I am eligible for an upgrade some time next year, I will definitely look at wp7.

    • Michale11111

You say don’t underestimate the sleeping giant? Perhaps you shouldn’t overestimate the bloated whale.

  • Michale11111

Mango? Did the fool Ballmer pick that one? What’s wrong with Windows Mobile 7.5? Another typically stupid Microsoft/Ballmer move. When will the board wise up and fire that snake oil salesman who seems to deliver only failure after failure?

    • Jsantana0793

Well, calm down there my friend. Ballmer is doing better for Microsoft than Bill Gates did leaving Microsoft. Since his take over, the Xbox 360 has been upgraded, Vista got assed out and Windows 7 took over. Steve let the public beta test it which resulted in a Windows that actually have the ability to end the use of XP. Now finally IE9 with IE 10 around the corner with HTML 5 and better much faster browsing experience, Bing search, The Cloud and now Windows Phone 7. Microsoft was sleeping at the wheel up until Bill Gates left and Steve Ballmer took over. Vista was a joke, sorry Billy. Michale1111, you must be a Mac user and a Windows hater, but Steve B. is taking Microsoft where it has not been since Windows XP. I commend Steve B. for the shakeup Microsoft. I was sick and tired of those “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC ad. I was sick of hearing how much better Firefox or Google Chrome is or how great Google search is or how Play Station is a better system and now how Android and IPhone blows away Windows Mobile. Steve B. is better for Microsoft than Bill Gates was at the end.

  • Jsantana0793

Public perception is what matters and Microsoft is not only late in the game, but also behind in what should have been available since the beginning when the phone was about to be released to Market. There should had been careful studies of what the competition had going and made sure those things were ironed out, right out the gate. It is really discouraging for any consumer to consider Windows Phone 7 to be a contender when it is very clear that the OS is incomplete. No push notification, the lack of real apps to show what the OS can do, no HTML 5, no Silverlight, no Flash, no multitasking, tethering, video chat, upgradable micro SD, mini HDMI and so on. These things should have been out since day one. There should not be an update, then another update to add those features later in the year. Microsoft should have taken notes right out of Apples Playbook. Talk about the new update and features, and then release them within weeks after the announcement, Not 10 months or later. It’s hard to argue the fact that Windows Phone 7 is worth having when it lacks most of the features that should have been available since day one. Instead, now it’s a waiting game, while this is happening. Android and IPhone will continue to release more updates to improve the OS with new features that will not be available till much later on Windows Phone 7. No good for Microsoft new Windows Phone OS. I speak from personal experience, I own the HTC HD7. I have owned it since it came out. I love it, it’s great, and it works well after the NoDo update, but it can be better. What Microsoft should have done is release the Mango update right off the bat. Microsoft can’t afford having their customers waiting for another updates that should have been implemented since day one. It puts in question… Should I have waited? Should I give up the phone till Microsoft plays catch up? Will they make it or will it be another KIN? I have my hopes, but I do not like this track record. NoDo took forever and I feel that the “Mango” update will take much longer than it has to be. Also, the sales people at T-Mobile and At&t are quick to point out that it’s not worth getting the Windows Phone 7 now that people have had their hands on one. Not because of the service, but the lack of good apps, features and push notification and the glitches. They are quick to show you an Android Phone at T-mobile or IPhone on At&t. I give Microsoft kudos for releasing a phone this late in the game, but they had plenty of time to release a phone with a complete, full featured phone that was ready to compete against the competition.

We’ll see this on “Nockia” devices too, according to Steve Balmer.
