Verizon adds additional cities to LTE portfolio

mobile

Verizon Wireless today announced the addition of a handful of new LTE markets coming online later this week: Columbia and Hilton Head, South Carolina; Wilmington, North Carolina; Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Lehigh Valley Airport in Pennsylvania; along with Cleveland and Clarksville, Tennessee. The bushel of markets were foreshadowed by Verizon earlier today — the company tweeted that “a mess of new cities and towns” were being added to its LTE portfolio. If you are located in any of the aforementioned cities you’ll have access to Verizon’s 4G, LTE airwaves beginning this Thursday, April 21st.

        I’m here too…Elgin is hot!

  • baaadandy

What?! VZW improving their network? Since when have they been doing this? Who do they think they are, at&t? =D

  • 1T2dirtnap

So what AT&T has already deployed 4G to 96% of the US! VZ you are behind the times!

    • SteveJobsApplefan

Are you trolling? Verizon is rolling out LTE 4G while AT&T is talking about their HSPA+ 4G. Two different things, homie.

      • 1T2dirtnap

        Yes I am! =D

    • Neverthesheep

      yes it is sir.

    • Umanben

I know its weird for Columbia to be so quick with the upgrade. I bet university of sc has something to do with it.

      • Neverthesheep

whatever the case, im just glad it happened. I hope its not one of those deals where downtown and harbison are the only ones with lte

    APPLE, STEVE JOBS, READ THIS:

When frigging Bethlehem, PA and Clarksville, TN are getting 4G, it’s WELL BEYOND MAINSTREAM.

4G is no longer “in development”, “in trials”, etc. It’s alive & online. Anyone in any of the largest 50 U.S. cities (which is almost 85% of the population, and probably close to 95% of cell phone users) can tell you, 4G LTE is here to stay.

If your expensive iToys can’t support a 4G network, then you will be a laughing stock worldwide. “Nice toy, it’s pretty, and it plays Angry Birds.” No one will take it seriously.

This is your last warning. Either come out with 4G on the next phone, or it means you need to put the training wheels back on.

    • SteveJobsApplefan

They won’t because the 4G chipsets from Qualcomm and others are still too big and heavy. Apple is all about having next year’s product be smaller than the last. They aren’t going to sacrifice size for 4G.

Remember how late to the game Apple was with 3G and the first iPhone?

      • Steve Jobs

        Dear Albert,
iPhone does have 4G. You must be holding it wrong.

      Captain Kirk: “Scotty…. I got… to… have… more… Power!”
Lt Cmdr Scott: “I canna change the laws of Physics, Cat’n, I need to route all power to the Mains, but I’ve got to have 30 Minutes!”

Apple will wait for a turn on the battery, a turn on the screen power requirements, and a turn on the LTE chipsets to ensure that they can get ‘a days worth’ of usage out of the iPhone 5/6/7.

Until then they will complain that LTE is too spotty in coverage, doesn’t provide a compelling experience to the average [non-tech, under 18, over 50] iOS device purchaser. And probably more rationally… to develop a ‘world phone’ they would like to see several LTE delivery systems matured,
      and other handsets proving interoperability.

But don’t get me wrong, as soon as they can get the hours and have as good (hopefully better) call/data antenna/reception performance, they’ll claim they were the best.

I received a text the other day that the towers in my area were upgraded for better signal and speeds or something to that extent. We couldn’t place a call most of the day. I assumed it was 4G but my signal really has been better (now it’s mediocre from piss poor).
