New team to build 'the future of cloud services at Apple'

Services

A new job listing on Apple’s website reveals that the company is assembling a small team of engineers to build what the company refers to as “the future of cloud services at Apple.” The job listing, which seeks a Cloud Systems Software Engineer, calls for a programmer who will “explore the far reaches of the possible by joining the team building the future of cloud services at Apple!” Apple is rumored to be working on several new cloud-based offerings that may launch in the near future. Among the more recent rumors is rumblings that Apple will revamp its MobileMe service to include a digital locker that would allow users to store music and videos online and then stream the files to PCs and iOS devices. Amazon recently launched a Cloud Drive service that offers similar functionality.

Thanks, Will

if you don’t like the stories on BGR, then get out of here and go to another site. We don’t want biased people like you here.

      • Rock Me Like A Hurricane

Biased??????? Zach and BGR are sooooooo biased. They live and breath for bull $hit Apple rumors. Your just an Apple fanboy too.

Are you bitter because your favorite tech company is not successful?

        Nick

you made a stupid comment. It shows your lack of intelligence.

  • Bringit

WHY WOULD A TECH BLOG POST ABOUT APPLE?! WHAT DOES APPLE HAVE TO DO WITH TECH?! APPLE IS NOT EVEN A PLAYER IN THE TECH WORLD!!

More importantly – why do people who claim to not care about Apple spend so much time posting in threads about Apple?

    It’s love, and jealousy.

    • Yup

      its stevie’s delicious sweaty balls

        another stupid comment.

Just like you posting on every android post I guess.

MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt here, so I have interest in both. Apple needs to step up their wireless game in a big way. Otherwise my next laptop will be Chrome Os, instead of Mac OS. All of my photos and docs should automatically sync to the web and we’ll as my hard drive.

      • Bringit

I post in some Android threads – but not to give BGR a difficult time about creating Android related threads.

      • Anonymous

Bringit BABYYY, you only post in Android threads when you’re lookin’ to rock on some Green ballz.

Don’t forget to ‘Bring’ my Magnums tonight!!

I agree with the sentiment that Apple needs to step up their cloud game, but as someone with a Cr-48, I have to laugh at the suggestion you’d use Chrome OS as a replacement for a Windows/Mac/Linux laptop. It’s useful as a secondary laptop *in addition to* one of those. The problem is that’s the main market for a tablet as well, and tablets let you actually install software where Chrome OS does not.

      • Booboolala2000

But isn’t the CR-48 the Alpha test for Chrome OS? I know its really beta but I have to feel that the finished version will allow for installation of supported software. I thought Google did that as a test bed to see how people interact with an ultimately web based computer.

Apple’s cloud presence currently is nil. They need to get with today before they start thinking about tomorrow. Mobile Me is a joke. $100/year for what android has been doing for two years, and it doesn’t even do all of that. Amazon has cloud player for music, and I have 25gigs there. Google has Google Docs, Google music coming out next month. Apple + cloud = fail.

  • http://www.spencerweddings.com Jason Spencer

Apple will need a brand new infrastructure to pull this off. Anyone that has ever used the MobileMe service knows how painfully slow it is to transfer files in/out, especially bigger ones like movies or mp3.

Zach, do you just post and forget? You obviously don’t read the comments otherwise you’d stop with the BS you spill out of you hands. No body cares, 99% of what you write is total BS and unvalidated. You even disgust Apple fanboys with the severity of your Apple deep throating. Give it a rest because when you post legitimate things you still annoy people.

Jesus. Chill man. It’s a story. Leave the man alone!!!!

      • KCRic

I give out one rant a day, this was it. The story itself is good, I’m actually surprised Apple isn’t leading the way with cloud services since years ago that was their big thing. Make everything wireless, that’s what their plan was but they’ve been slacking on that lately.

        Agreed brother. All good… :-)

Keep up the good work zach! The Goofan (aka Apple Hater) Nation loves you.

Unfortunately most of these guys just got dumped by their girlfriends and thus are a little angry. But once they get to their basements and start kinecting they’ll be happy again.

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

DROID already DOES have the cloud via Amazon. LOL at Apple!!!!!

      • Anonymous

Absolutely! In our last Board Meeting we discussed that Google has had this for more than 20 years.

I think this is good news, ture or not. Everyone needs to get to the cloud so it get better for us consumers. With Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in this market the capabilities are going to be fantastic. I can’t wait until I can just stream my Zune collection from the cloud.

  • gryphyn

just wait ——– a few more weeks—– maybe a month or three you all will see a huge footprint in the clouds. the amount of memory being shipped is unbelievable , of course going to that tiny little tech company called APPLE. can’t say more but enjoy!!!
