Hands on with the T-Mobile G2x, again [video]

CTIA

T-Mobile’s G2x could shape up to be one of T-Mobile’s hottest smartphones when it launches, so we figured we’d swing by LG’s booth again to bring you a closer look at the G2x and its beefy hardware — this time on video. As we said in our initial hands-on, we found the G2x to be seriously fast thanks to the 1GHz dual-core  Nvidia Tegra 2 processor under the hood. But while the phone was fast, the plastic back felt a bit cheap and we wish there was more metal or texture to give it a more premium feel. Also, it’s going to launch with Android 2.2 (Froyo) instead of the newer Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system, and that’s kind of a bummer. Alas, you can’t have everything. Hit the jump and check out our G2x video and don’t forget to stop by our photo gallery on the way there.

    I wonder if ice cream has been optimized for dual cores if they will skip a gingerbread update for this phone and go straight to android 2.4.

    Is this phone really called the G2x? When they already have a G2 that is nowhere near related to the G2x?

      Me thinks tmobile is copying Verizon with the naming, Droid and Droid X, having a G2 and then their “G2X” their G2 xtreme version…wonder if that means there will be, like the Droid 2, a G22…

    Funny how the video showed looked like a sperm impregnating an egg?? Some chicka-chicka-bom-bom action maybe? Sweet phone though for sure, was a little concerned about the game loading, but was glad that it looked like a Halo clone or something. I will be for sure getting this since I am due for an upgrade pretty freakin soon….

    so awesome! thanks guys for posting! def the phone i’m interested in over all the others currently announced. just a straight developer phone right there.

    @Will
    i’m not sure but i’m not worried one bit. i’ve read LG is staying close to developers (on top of this one running all stock), so it should be very hackable meaning there will be custom ROMs for it which also means whatever version of Android we want that’s out at the time should be able to be thrown on this puppy.

    can’t wait!

    samsung and LG stuff has a habit of feeling cheap. An unfortunate place to save a few cents…

    I thought it “definitely feels like a high-end premium device” according to yesterday’s first hands-on. Why the sudden change in heart?

    Todd mentioned a price of $199, has that been confirmed by T-Mobile?
