Motorola XOOM may launch February 17th for $699.99 from Best Buy

Tablets

According to a new report, retail giant Best Buy is set to launch Motorola’s highly anticipated XOOM tablet on February 17th for $699.99. A price tag of $699.99 would position the XOOM in line with Apple’s 64GB iPad tablet, and make it $100 more expensive than Apple’s 32GB iPad. Motorola stated that the XOOM tablet will launch with 32GB of onboard storage, expandable to up to 64GB. BGR previewed the Motorola XOOM at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show and we were quite impressed. The Android 3.0 Honeycomb-powered tablet features a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800-pixel touchscreen display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1080p full HD video playback, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and a mobile hotspot function. The XOOM will launch with Wi-Fi and support for Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, with 4G LTE support coming to existing devices in the second quarter thanks to a hardware upgrade. Hit the break for a purported shot of Best Buy’s Employee Toolkit, which shows an in-stock date of February 16th and helps corroborate this rumor.

This is great competition for the one year old ipad. I can’t wait to see what Motorola comes up with next year to compete with the ipad 2 coming in the next couple months!

This is competing with the next ipad. Only thing that the ipad is rumored to have over the Xoom is the screen resolution. Revolutionary

… and given the feature ‘rumors’ surrounding what the next iPad will feature, the XOOM is still be well-ahead of the game. We’ll See… but comparing a WiFi-only (with no GPS, or possibility of storage expansion) 32gb iPad with the a 3G/LTE/GPS/Expandable etc device is ridiculously misleading.

Is there ANY software made for Android tablets yet? Because there’s tons for the year-old iPad…

  • Youngjboy

Poor Jouralism. The XOOM would be cheaper than the 32GB iPad. The comparison is being made to the wi-fi only ipad, not the 3G.

I wish them good luck, they’re going to need it.

Almost a year late to the party…

The party has just begun. Let’s say the tablet craze lasts for 10 years, that is like being 24 minutes late for a 4 hour house party.

Hmm, is it pronounced “zoom,” or perhaps more aptly for Motorola, “exhume” ??

Damn, this post needs to be updated already.

Does anyone have any clue what this hardware upgrade for 4G/LTE consists of? (damn those dangling prepositions)

I’m real curious – will it modify how it looks? Will it cost anything?

Impressive price. $30 cheaper than a comparible iPad and if you spend $50 on a 32gb Micro SD card, you can have a 64gb Xoom with 3g (upgradable to 4g) for about $749 as opposed to a comparible iPad (not upgradable to 4g) for $829. Kudos to Motorola for lowering the Tablet price!

So, how about a release date for the Atrix? I’m not buying March 1st. That seems too far away.

come on BGR, u can do better! $729 for 3G iPad @ 32GB

whoa whoa whoa, the ipad that supports 3g is $730, which makes the zoom cheaper

Pardon me, sirs, but this isn’t what we meant when we said you could get ahead by out-pricing the competition.

Xoom is MAP priced from Verizon at $899. I can’t see them selling it for less than that. If so they can’t advertise the price.
