RBC: iPhone sales to hit 70 million in 2011

mobile

In a price target revision sent to investors Wednesday morning, RBC Capital Markets Managing Director Mike Abramsky raised the firm’s target for Apple stock to $395 from $365. RBC also raised its revenue estimates, speculating that increased demand and new product launches would drive Apple’s revenue to $90.8 billion in the 2011 fiscal year and $103.3 billion in 2012. Abramsky’s revised figures put Apple’s first quarter revenue at $25 billion, above the Street’s consensus of $24.2 billion, and the second quarter will dip slightly to between $20 and $21 billion. Apple is expected to sell 3 million Verizon iPhones in the second quarter, with unit sales totaling 9 to 10 million in the calendar year. Based on the addition of the Verizon iPhone and strong demand for the upcoming fifth-generation iPhone, which is expected to launch in June or July, RBC estimates that Apple will sell 70 million iPhones in the 2011 calendar year — 19% of the estimated global smartphone market.

Why is this site called BGR? Apple is not in the name so why is almost every article about Apple? I would accept it if BRG was posting new info about Apple, well the iPhone to be more precise…however its the same crap…its the same freaking phone thats been out forever, give it a rest. Some of us wanna hear about something not pertaining to Apple…like how about i dont know the Atrix…i would really like some info on that…how about u report on something new and exciting, and not something u been reporting since June! No im sorry the i4 rumors have been around long before its release, and funny enough they are still around.

Last week was all Android coverage from CES. Do you have the memory of a goldfish?

If you don’t wanna read Apple articles why are you still 1.) Clicking on them 2.) Posting on them?

      • Anonymous

Really??…You don’t think there was ANY buzz about the vzw iphone possibly being announced at CES?

      • Anonymous

The Android news was actually news. This is a 6 month old phone. I understand it’s a big deal going to Verizon, but did we need all of the staff trying to bash Verizon? Anybody with a grasp on reality knows that Verizon has the best network. Do we need the same thing over and over?

      • Anonymous

Technically the Verizon iPhone is old news but in terms of Apple profits/marketshare and a potential damper on Android market share, it is BIG news. Personally, I think that Android and Apple are simply going to continue to grow and eviscerate Symbian and RIM.

The difference is that Apple earns >$500 per iPhone before anyone even buys an app, peripheral, iTunes song, movie, TV show or iAd. And then they earn money on that stuff too. No one else earns money on every aspect of the entire ecosystem.

Jesus H. Christ!!! I’m an iPhone user, and even I’m sick of all these iPhone posts. Give it a rest already!

This’d be news if it were a actual sales figures. But this is just market speculation from one firm.

I thought this was a blog?

report on something NEW, bgr. This is ridiculous!! It’s a tech blog, it’s supposed to be on the cutting edge, not the dull, 7 month old edge. Especially not article after article after article….ugh.

I go to work this early begging the internet to steal me away from it all with shiny new gadgets and all i see is iphone, iphone, iphone, iphone….

This article is perfectly relevant. This year is shaping up to be the mother of all mobile confrontations.

Apple Vs. Android in the truest sense.

3G, 4G, iphones, Android phones, and tablets are all clashing. What will be determined is everything from the rates you pay to the subsidized prices for phones, to who will even continue to produce smartphones. Everyone is struggling to emerge as segment leader.

That’s why all mobile sector information is being treated so critically right now. And like it or not Apple is a current segment leader. If this kind of information is not interesting to you, it’s really easy to scan down and pick another article.

    • Anonymous

Apple is not the segment leader. In case you missed it:

      RIM – 34% and falling
      Android – 26% and rising
      iOS – 25%

      • http://twitter.com/homescrub homescrub

        RIM fell to 14%….wait, I meant -14%.

      • 1792

In case you missed it Android system users have been giving their phones away. Amazon was selling them for 1 cent. Best buy was giving 4 different android phones away a week (all with contracts of course). Apple also did it with 1 device on 1 carrier. Android phones are good devices but Apple is eating their lunch no matter how you crunch the true numbers.

Apple is releasing an iPhone 4 on verizon next month, will they then release iPhone 5 on verizon in June or july? Is it even gonna be worth buying the iPhone 4 now on verizon when iPhone 5 is on the horizon???

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

      If i Remember correctly

the LTE variant will not be out till around 2012.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BHMB52ZFMATI5KS7D4JT6UU7NA Eric W

Not sure if they will release it then. They might space it out to Jan or Feb 2012, it might be that AT&T get the updates in the summers and verizon gets it in the winter. Just to space out the supply.

  • Guest101

To all you suckers that have an iPhone 4 with AT&T and wanna jumpe ship to verizon, keep in mind u gonna pay $325 for a canellation fee, pay $199 or $299 for a new verizon iPhone 4. Add that up & see if it’s worth jumping ship to a network that don’t allow voice/data simultaneously. Oh and expect a fee for the hotspot feature, shit ain’t free in this world…

    • Steel

As I’ve said before, why tout At&t’s alleged voice and data use when the voice alone option rarely even works?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

      Steel makes a good point.

Owning and using an iPhone on AT&T is like owning a super car in NewYork City. Then expecting to get data and voice to work at the same time is like expecting to do doughnuts around Time Square….

    • Anonymous

Simultaneous voice data works on wifi. It rarely even works on att’s sparce 3G. Tethering is free on Android : )

      • OGDroid

hell no its not, I was charged every time I tried to tether my droid
        That is…….until I rooted it :)

      • Anonymous

Liar! Nobody has ever been charged for any of the tethering methods. Unless
you’re willing to offer up a copy of your bill, stfu!

    • Edgy

To all those “suckers” who have trouble with math, the ETF is pro-rated as you move along with the contract, and AT&T iPhone 4′s aren’t worthless once you cancel your contract. As long as you didn’t JUST start a contract, the financial aspect is pretty negligible.

Say you upgraded to the iPhone 4 in June, your ETF would now be down to $255 (there are handy ETF calculator widgets out there). From what I’ve seen, it’s fairly easy to sell a used iPhone 4 for at least $400 on craigslist or ebay (possibly more if it’s 32GB) to someone who can’t get promotional pricing on a new phone. $255 ETF + $199 VZW iPhone 4 (16GB) – $400 salvage value = $54 total investment.

This is obviously a ballpark figure, but $50 isn’t too bad for someone who can’t make calls on a phone that they otherwise love.

      • http://twitter.com/homescrub homescrub

Wow! Great write up. You should write for BGR.

  • Anonymous

jeez people, you do not have to click on the article if you don’t want to read it…you do have a choice.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

I know one person who will not be buying it.

Well well well..looks like your poor Blackbery Morons are left out in the cold again. Hey, I hear a new Curve is coming out in 2014. LMAO.

At least I can still make phone calls, enjoy Angry Birds though, real productive….

Tech Blogs are not what they used to be, where I can get unbiased coverage of todays gadgets. No instead we get Blogs like BGR (I remember when he was a crackberry addict), Gizmodo, and Engadget the three top gadget Blogs which post anything and everything iPhone, even if it is irrelevant and useless. Iv’e been following BGR since before he had a blog, and Engadget and Gizmodo pre-iPhone. And one thing remains clear I can no longer get any good unbiased tech information without having to sift through pages of Apple articles.

Its like Apple is paying you guys to post all these irrelevant articles. So iPhone came to Verizon with a Hot Spot…ok? On to the next one, PLEASSSSSEEE

I guess that is what happens when the three top tech blogs are owned by Apple Fanboys…just my .02

    • QNX Please

Agreed, its a joke, and kind of sad. What is more likely the truth is that Apple’s marketing arm is actually paying to have all this crap posted, to make it appear that the iPhone is the second coming of Christ and that all the tech blogs appear to think its the best phone in the world. Seriously who cares if it comes to Verizon, there are already better phones on the Verizon network.

  • wanderer

Iphone and apple news in general, just sucks in the fans, haters and fandroids alike and that equals more hits on the site regardless if comments are positive or negative. So if you hate apple and the iphone, its best not to click on the post and comment on it.

  • Kunal Sharma

Why 2nd quarter revenue will be less than the first one, iPad 2 will be coming only in second quarter.

  • Marco

Who wants a dated iPhone? Android phones of 2011 are better. Dual Core processors, more RAM, better displays, 4G and more… why would anyone want iPhone? Especially the iPhone 4 GSM version that has serious antenna issues…

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I have it on good authority that this is BS! Apple’s lying about their sales. Google is on its way to take 100% market share and this year Apple won’t sell more than 10 iPhones AROUND the world! People have finally started listening to the Goofan (aka Apple Hater) nation and realized that iPhones are NOT real phones, but mockups or phones and that Apple doesn’t know how to make products. You are RIGHT ON MARCO!
