Photos of Motorola’s CLIQ 2 surface, headed to T-Mobile

Ah yes, the proverbial handset-image faucet is really starting to leak now. Blog CellPhone Signal has acquired several images of Motorola’s CLIQ 2 handset that is bound for U.S. wireless carrier T-Mobile. The device will sport Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + ERD, aGPS, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, an interesting honeycomb-style keyboard, and will run the MOTOBLUR UI. The report speculates that the device could be Moto’s first HSPA+ device and the Android version the device will ship with is still unknown. This one should touchdown next week at CES and CellPhone Signal pegs the release date as January 19th, lining up perfectly with previous rumors.

Having seen what happened with the Cliq series and the Devour, I will say this will release with 2.1 with no future upgrades.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! You’re funny. This thing will ship with 2.1 and never see any frozen yogurt or gingerbread men unless you flash it yourself.

They’re terrible with their budget phones. But the Droid X, Droid 2 and Droid got 2.2 rather quickly.

If you go to McDonald’s and order a Hamburger, regardless of it being a typical burger, BigMac or an Angus Burger, it is still a McDonald’s Burger.

Now lets kick this over to phones.

If you go to Motorola and buy a phone, regardless of i being Cliq, a Droid, or a DroidX, it is still just a Motorola Phone.

I do not understand what the hype is with Motorola. They were a dying cell phone producer because they were making sub-standard phones. Then all of a sudden they throw Android on it, and market it with a cut down version of “Android” and all of a sudden it’s a GREAT phone with AWESOME hardware. I don’t get it…. Most Likely Never will….

Donny, you’re out of your element! (Mark it zero, Dude.)

If you buy a Motorola smartphone, Don not expect the latest software, even through updates. They have a tendency to not provide those.

Samsung is more of a culprit there, but really it’s a problem with all android phones.

Motorola updates their high end Verizon phones… They don’t do a very good job on non-Verizon phones, especially low end ones.
I would never buy a low end phone either way. What is saving $100 when you’re paying way more than that over the life of the contract?

Moto: STOP PUTTING BLUR ON DEVICES!

  • beastly

The pictures show a “3G” next to the signal bars, which means no HSPA+. HSPA+ devices show an “H,” never “3G.” I like the looks of it. Should be a decent midrange Android, like Moto’s other offerings. Personally, I like Blur, and I’m okay with not getting regular software updates. Based on the comments I’ve read, I’m in the minority.

If it is not shipping wiht 2.3 then DON’T buy it. If they promise an upgrade then don’t buy it, just look at their history of upgrade promises. Cliq, Cliq XT, and Devour…. motorola is digging themselves a hole with the way they have treated these other phones and people are P/O! They WILL loose buyers too.

I seem to recall that I just read an article from the MOTO Ceo saying that they weren’t going to continue to focus on BLUR. I guess I read that article wrong.

As a Cliq owner, I can say that my impression of blur is that it lags the phone terribly, consumes the battery very quickly, and before I turned it off was constantly annoyed by it’s constant updating every social app. Every time it updates it makes all the other functions of the phone LAG. From time to time it had difficulty logging in to the moto server. In my opinion it was simply BLOATWARE, and impossible to turn off without rooting the phone. It also made the upgrade path VERY SLOW. I just now got 2.1 when others were on 2.2 months and months ago.

If moto turned blur into a launcher or app that could be TURNED OFF, then that might help. Otherwise, expect that your nice new cliq 2 will get upgrades, if at all, a long time after other devices get them.

No more proprietary bloat for me, no BLUR.

No front facing camera? Glad I pulled the trigger and got the G2, looks like it will be the best phone on T-Mobile with a physical keyboard for a long time. The Cliq 2 is not even as nice as a sidekick.
