DROID 2 Global software update on the way, squashes global bugs

Software

According to a report by Droid-Life, a software update for the DROID 2 Global handset it on the way. The update, which weighs in at around 16MB, fixes several international calling bugs, including: device resets when switching from GSM/UMTS mode, errant “No Service” signals, and a blank screen when activating call forwarding. The report also boasts of “improved audio during voice calls” and “reduced user interface lock-ups,” which are always a good thing. No word on when the software will officially begin hitting handsets, but we’re sure it won’t be too long from now.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. If you’re still in your 30 day purchase window with Verizon I’d return the thing. I saw all those issues and more with the D2G (and two replacements) that all worked / failed the same. Surprise, surprise. Some of the issues are supposed to be fixed in December and others the first quarter of next year. I wasn’t about to roll the dice and be stuck buying the next phone that actually ‘works’ at the screw job retail price range of $500 – $600. I’ve had a lifetimes fill of Motorola products with this sorry piece of shit phone. The last of them went back to Verizon for a refund and I’ll wait for an HTC (Merge?) to come out with the ‘world phone’ capability, a better keyboard and likely better working all around, like being able to hear what the person on the other end of the line is actually saying.

      Dave,

I’m very sorry to hear about your troubles with the DROID 2 GLOBAL EDITION. However VZW and myself are very pleased you have decided to stay with the DROID line up. The HTC INCREDIBLER will be out in Q1 2011. It will totally revolutionize yet again how DROID DOES.

        Don’t respond, don’t respond, DON’T!!!!
Ah, crap. You really are just a sorry person aren’t you? I don’t even have anymore comebacks. You’re just not worth. You’re probably snickering in your mom’s basement that someone responded to you, so I hope you have a good laugh. See you in the next post about Android!

Well, here is the thing…you responded…but it was just a poor attempt at explaining why its so hard for you to respond. So yes, you fail. Fail hard and fast.

Stay with the Droid line? I guess you misunderstood my message. I don’t want any more Motorola crap! I’m back to using the Moto Droid 1 that I got Nov 2009 and will use until there’s a non-Motorola Android phone out with the D2G features, but a phone where the features actually work.

Norm you should use the word magical instead of revolutionize. Take a page out of Jobs book.

      Mine is pretty awesome…
Just saying. You got some bad luck there, man! Hope the next phone works out!

I wonder if this works in south korea as well…. Other world phones doesnt appear to work locally

Almost bought the Global. Glad I didn’t.

If this had been big bug fix for the Blackberry Torch, it would have prompted dozens of internet screeds happily excoriating RIM. Instead, we get this anodyne puff piece. Someone might at least ask if the rush to get Android phones to market is taking a bite out of reliability.

I guess I am just lucky. I bought my D2G about 3 weeks ago. Just returned from a 2 week trip to Europe. The phone worked even better than I expected. Call quality was okay – not perfect but certainly was acceptable. Data transmission seemed to be as good as the local networks allowed. Maybe I am not seeing the problems with the keyboard because I mainly use the touch screen keyboards.

I just got the D2G yesterday, I like it a lot. Just for the simple fact that I came from a Samsung Fascinate. That thing started to blow because it was still on 2.1 , my work wouldn’t allow me to use it on their net work because of the 2.1 browser issues. I couldn’t use VPN clients at work. With the D2G I’ve had no issues. I got the white one,it’s pretty nice .

Has any one experienced the problem that the Droid 2 global just does not ring at incoming calls but rings for everything else? I had to reset the battery to fix it but for no obvious reasons the same problem comes back again after making a few phone calls or just changing the volume setting.
