LG’s flagship Android device gets photographed; 4-inch screen, Tegra 2, 1080p

Well what do we have here? According to the gang over at Engadget, you are looking at none-other than the LG “Star”; LG’s upcoming, flagship, Android handset. What makes this DROID Incredible look-alike a flagship device you ask? Purportedly, the unreleased set will sport a dual-core, Tegra 2 processor along with a 4-inch screen, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash and full 1080p video-recording, front-facing camera of an unknown pixel-count, microSD card slot, and 1500 mAh battery.

Now, we know what you’re thinking: “I hope LG doesn’t muck-up this handset with UI enhancements.” You’ll be happy to know that Engadget’s source mentions that the version of Android that runs on this bad boy is “nearly untouched.” Joy.

The device is pegged for release in early 2012 2011 in unknown regions on unknown carriers, but seeing as how LG has yet to make a big splash in the U.S. smartphone market… we’d say this would be a great way to start!

Not to nitpick but I think you mean “early 2011″.

And yes, this looks really awesome.

Yes, thank you! Slip of the finger :) Fixed.

  • Greyjester7

Are you sure the release date is early 2012 as stated in paragraph 3?

Can’t even copy and paste an article correctly.

The rear camera may be “unknown pixel count” “according to the gang over at Engadget”, but the “8M” on the case next to the camera lens is a strong hint. Off to read Engagdet…

“…8 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash and full 1080p video-recording, front-facing camera of an unknown pixel-count…”

Not sure what you’re talking about.

Does this not look like the leaked LTE LG handset that a Verizon CFO was supposively walking around with? If not, it looks ridiculously close.

Funny you said that because a talk with my company’s Government Verizon Rep last month, he mentioned about an OEM dinner he came from saying LG should be offering their first LTE handset around Dec/Jan. I’m not sure how the HTC Merge and Mecha wouldn’t beat them to the punch but only time will tell.

FINALLY – Please, just keep the bottom row of buttons in the same order!! Say it with me now “Menu-Home-Back-Search” Google, can we get this standardized please?

    • Tomm

I prefer Home then menu, as the EVO has it.

The google branding on the back means it has to be a stock (or almost) android experience….which is a good thing

    • Jeremiah

The Droid Eris says “Google” on the back, yet uses HTC Sense. But here’s to hoping it is stock…

      • Sean

no it says “with Google” which means it’s running a different os with a google os..or android

I see now in the pics, that the front glass is curved.

I like that, that’ll make it easier to hold onto imo and adds a styling cue not often seen.

Stock android on some nice specs. Love it.

  • Donny

These things need bigger batteries..I’ll take a bigger sized body……I don’t know how so many of you are cool with less than 6-8 hours of battery life. Anyone getting more with heavy use is a blatant liar.

“Nearly stock” still leaves a lot of room for fuckery. See: D2/DX. It’s got the “with Google” tag, but they still put their blurred up app tray on it with that irritating fade in/out.

And yes, I know I can get a custom launcher.

Too bad LG is still bullshittin about phones for sprint…(Of the non watered down variety)

  • Rjcurreri

Just got a slight twinge of droid x envy for the first time…if this thing runs stock and has a half way decent front facing camera i think I may be looking at my next mobile device…as long as they release it to verizon that is

  • Foley

    With Bing? lol

  • Windontree

with Fring, QiK, etc able to handle video calls. Why on earth are top of the line smartphones still without the front facing camera? One thing I know for sure, thid LG flagship ain’t in my list when renewal comes along early next year.

    • joshie

Why isn’t it on your list? This phone DOES have a front-facing camera.

“front-facing camera of an unknown pixel-count”

  • Windontree

oooops. read and post too qikly sorry

  • Wburbage

This has all of the makings of the be-all-end-all android phone, as long as they don’t muck it up with all of the carrier bloatware garbage we’re being accustomed to.
