Apple adds iOS Concierge service for Apple Store check-ins [Updated]

Retail

Like Foursqure, Apple’s new app update will allow users to perform location based check-ins. Unlike Foursquare, Apple’s new app will actually be useful. The service in question, dubbed Concierge, allows iOS users to wirelessly check in at Apple Store locations and enter into a queue for service. Concierge is a dedicated app on Apple Store employee devices, while the service has been added to Apple’s already available Apple Store app for customers. Customers will receive push notifications asking if they would like to check in upon entering an Apple Store location. The service then provides information such as wait time and position in queue. While Concierge won’t do much to shorten wait times at Apple’s crowded retail store, at least iOS users will now get a better idea of what they’re in for.

      LOL!!! DROID FTW!

    • Mr.Bill

I see I am busy here already today, thanks Mr.Bill.

      • Mr. Bill (the real one)

See, that’s what happens when you impersonate me. You get down-ranked. Suck on it.

  • Jarrett

From what I hear this is no big deal. Other computer manufacturers have this same sort of setup at their retail stores already.

    Acer
    ASUS
    Dell
    HP

They each have 318 stores and have been doing this for awhile.

  • joe

Do we get enough Apple related posts?

    • Norm

Agreed and we need more DROID posts.

      Thanks,
      Norm, VZW DROID R&D

If you would not read the post and comment on the post then BGR might be inclined to think that the Apple posts were not important. Being that you not only read the post but take time to comment tells BGR that you like the Apple posts.

Jarrett, thank you for being logical and for having a business-oriented brain.

      • Carmen

P.S. That is meant to be sincere, and not sarcastic.

I don’t own Apple products, so I dunno how customer service works in the Apple Store, but woudln’t it be more ideal for you to simply get in queue by entering your name into one of the many computers in there, and then your name shows up on a larger screen at the front, or all around the store?

It seems better than having everyone act like drones staring at their iPhones while inside the store…
    Maybe I’m wrong.

That already happens. You can add yourself to the queue from any computer in the store, but I’ve been in Apple stores that are packed and all comps are taken. If I’m carrying an iDevice I should have easy access to the queue from that. This only adds to the simple and easy Customer Service Experience provided at Apple Stores.

yes. please – me for stating the truth.

“DROID IS AWESOME IPHONE SUX” …etc etc etc.

Guess what you’re a fanboy too.

  • Apple Fanboy

Just when you think it’s harder for Apple to get any better, they come up with this very slick strategy. Apple’s customer services is above and beyond any of their competitors, and this is a testament to their unmatched customer relations strategy. Keep up the good work Apple.

Too much Apple BGR give us something else to read.

    • Jarrett

See my above reply. Analytics tell BGR all they need to know. More people click on the article and click to post about the article means that people care about the article. Then BGR determines that the topic is popular with the majority and place more items in relation. This is the entirety of the Web. If you don’t like the Apple posts don’t read them and don’t comment on them.

      Pretty simple stuff really.

  • Reptile

I think the point of this is to make their customers aware of the potential capabilities and usefulness of their products. But again I’m not biased towards android or apple so please flame away.

  • Roland

I do wish they had this at my local Verizon store, it is a zoo and the kiosks are annoying, especially when someone is looking for mouse to use the touch screen is in front of you.

  • MacMan

People complaining about apple post, if you don’t like the show change the channel.

    Apple ftw !

    Android does Suck

    • joe

If you want all iPhone all the time then head over to the iPhone blog.

      • MacMan

If you want android crap go to a android blog.

      • joe

I’m just saying it would just be nice to see them put as much effort into everything else as they do with Apple. There are like 8 Apple posts to every 3 that isn’t Apple related.

      • Jarrett

        @ joe,

Then you are saying that there should be a 9-3 ratio right? That makes sense then, there are 300,000 iOS Apps and only 100,000 Android Apps. So by reducing the 9-3 to 3-1, you are correct. There needs to be a 3-1 ratio of Apple>Android Apps.

        I can’t believe I missed that myself.

        ATTENTION BGR!!!!

You currently have 8 Apple stories for every 3 Android stories, could you please fix this immediately. There should be 9 Apple stories to every 3 Android stories.

        Thank you.

Relax A-holes, it is all in good fun.

      • MacMan

        Haha Jarrett

  • lechero

Now if only Verizons stores could learn from this. Not a direct punch at Verizon, but no one who has ever stepped foot in one can argue, their customer wait systems suck, or at least they do in my area, literally 2hr waits sometimes.

  • T Man

So anyone with an iDevice entering the store will automatically get a push notification? Given how broken the notifications are in iOS, that will be quite intrusive.

iQueue? Really? Can they describe anything without “i” in front of it?

    • lechero

why would they its their branding.

    • jack bauer

Im sorry. Its so much different than you fandroids getting all hot and bothered over anything with DROID in the title.

      • T Man

The difference is that Droid is an actual brand that Verizon uses, and unless I’m talking about a Verizon Android phone, I will never use Droid to represent that. The problem is that “i” is used in front of everything they do, and not just tech products. Ads, queues, whatever, they are using this way too much. It’s such a generic name against what they are trying to do in selling premium goods.

  • Bryan

“Unlike Foursquare, Apple’s rumored upcoming app will actually be useful.” sooooo…..this will be useful for you to wait in line at apple stores…idk, Maybe I missed something, but after I read that, I kinda lost interest in the article. Obviously I can understand how this app is “convenient” but to go as far and compare it to a social networking site that people can use anywhere as a kinda game, while I admit isn’t gonna make you’re life any easier, I don’t see a program that takes you’re place in line being actually being “useful”. Make one that holds my seat at the movies before I get there and we’re golden.

  • Tdot34

4 Apple stories in a row BGR, you going for a new record?

    • Jarrett

If you are commenting on the story it clearly shows that the story was important. Either that or you really don’t value your time.

      • woof

No, commenting on this story does not mean it was important. I didn’t read the article and could give two shits about it. I just come on here to laugh at Jarrett who defends Apple like it was paying him per blow job.

  • bob

When the add the “Apple Madame” service I’m interested…

  • wanderer

I love it when the fandroids come here and comment more than apple fans. It shows that they care so much on what apple is up to. Seriously, keep it up guys since negative comments are still considered publicity and BGR will keep cranking them out for you to read and comment on positive, negative it doesn’t matter. I actually would be disappointed not to see any hater posting on every apple post….its becoming the norm. I kind of wonder if they know this is working in apple’s favor.
