YouTube to offer live streaming platform

General

Late yesterday, Google announced that streaming-video company YouTube would “begin a limited trial of a new live streaming platform in conjunction with four of our partners: Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.” As the press release explains:

This new platform integrates live streaming directly into YouTube channels; all broadcasters need is a webcam or external USB/FireWire camera. Included in the test is a “Live Comments” module which lets you engage with the broadcaster and the broader YouTube community. For the purpose of the trial, this offering will only be available today and tomorrow. Based on the results of this initial test, we’ll evaluate rolling out the platform more broadly to our partners worldwide.

There are several live broadcasts going on as we type. Check out the concept by hitting the read link and let us know what you think.

They just made $50 mil more in the time it took me to type this.

Yeah! I can hear the creak of that coffin opening.

They need something to stash that $$$$ in.

“They just made $50 mil more in the time it took me to type this.”

Miggy, are you handless? If not, then why did it take you 36 hours to type that? If so, you should get rubber hands like Roy Munson.

      • Miggy

It’s all cause Googs is killing them.

        Didn’t you get the memo?

      • K Larson

Miggy, I like the way you just make another stupid meaningless comment after you are shown to be a fool. You’re a smart one, aren’t you?

      • chrisszaroleta

        Roy Munson…classic!

Why the hell would Google want to kill Apple? Sometimes Nerds need to be sent to the damn corner.

They don’t want to kill Apple. They want Apple’s user base to tune into Googles services along with other brands too (i.e. Blackberry, MS, Palm).

If anything it competes with the TV Networks.

  • RottenApple

Live blogs. Oh lord, bad enough people actually think what they have to say is important. Even worse the dumb mofos that watch.

    • Wild Bill

Next thing you know, Google will be coming out with a Jump To Conclusions Mat

This could be very cool for unsigned and small label bands. If they could broadcast their shows live, could be a neat way to get their name out there.

  • Canela67

Interesting! And why is it so hard for some ppl to understand that pretty much Google owns the world! Google rocks! And apple is just all right! Love my ipod touch but apple just keeps coming with the same old shit just different look! And google is innovative & awesome!

YouTube realizes the importance of live streaming I think they are trying to do this to compete with Ustream because they have been dominating the live streaming market. A lot of big live events are done on Ustream and YouTube wants to start competing with that market.

I just pray and hope that the right policies and rules are put in place to regulate this. Like too many feeds with language means that user is banned. This could bring in a lot of moral issues. I’m not sure it’s a good idea.

  • Silver Screen

Looks like we are going back to the days of the Silent Movie Era!… “too many feeds with language” Charlie Chaplin would love it. The days of utter censorship! To talk or not to Talk that is the question!!! The evolution of ethics in the public view all over again! Yes they need some self control don’t they just like bathing suits of the twenties and now!
