T-Mobile's G2 to be $199 on-contract, $499 off

General

TmoNews has just gotten word that the unreleased and unannounced HTC G2 will be priced at $199 with a 2-year contract and $499 without on T-Mobile. The intel comes via a screen shot of T-Mobile’s internal TeamLine system. No real surprises here; after all, $199 is the smartphone sweet spot for high-end devices. Now all we need is an official unveiling and some detailed specifications.

the g2 has the worst keyboard layout EVER. Fail.

This can’t come soon enough so I can finally ditch my stupid BB Curve 8900!

  • Random Commenter

So that means you’re still a virgin?

  • Jared Hylton

T-Mobile’s G2 is going to rape. Plus with those HSPA+ speeds? Fagettaboutit!

Now, if T-Mobile would only EXPAND their coverage, they’d QUICKLY be in a position of power!

  • mingkee

So the price is same as Vibrant off contract.
The price is OK though it’s supposed to have more storage and S-AMOLED screen.
Does the 3.75G and physical keyboard worth the trade-off? If depends.

    • Rosario

Huh? The Vibrants 499 off contract. In fact the G2 and Vibrant have the exact same pricing, $499 of contract, $199 on contract after a $50 MIR. So actually if the G2 ends up with similar specs as the Vibrant, the G2 would be the better choice with a keyboard.

  • Shhhh

I hope it sells like a madman so T-Mo can afford to re-hire Catherine Zeta-Jones to do their commercials.

Hopefully on the back of the phone, they will have “GOOGLE” stamped on it in big, fat raised gold or silver block letters that POP!

Cause if I ever use the phone to actually talk on, I want people to see that it’s a Google.

  • Mr MN

The price is reasonable. Now all we need is the full specs and some hands on videos (possibly a video review). Can’t wait to see it in action

It’s too bad Tmobile’s coverage is abysmal and poor quality when it is available. You get what you pay for…garbage!

    • ps

Maybe for you, so don’t get it. Just because I hate everyone named De’Booniquawua, doesn’t mean that everyone should hate you too. Amiright?

    • mingkee

This anti-T-Mobile guy is pretty annoying!

  • Beedi

I love how Verizon and AT&T have convinced the foolish masses that by charging you more they are giving you the best quality.

    • Kthx

If you live in a semi-rural area (I’m not talking wilderness, but rather 10 miles outside New Hampshire’s second biggest city), T-mobile has large gaps in their coverage. I’m still tempted to go with them because of the phones and pricing, but out here anyway, Verizon’s and AT&T’s networks blow T-mobile away.

  • Alwin

I agree with Beedi, I get great speed and connectivity in CT with T-Mobile and cannot wait for this HSPA+ goodness.

I was considering getting the EVO for the 4G but no 4G in my area and I already have a 9700 and a 3GS so they latest offerings from RIM and Apple not worth taking out a contract with AT&T (c**ts)

Tmobile FYI..CANNOT buy ANY us based cell company if they ever wanna go big..they r based in germany and all they do here is rent out satellite “spots”..setup some happy people stores..thats it..they SAY they are expanding…BUT it isn’t in the right direction..im still waiting on vzw going 4g!

    • joel

      lmfao @ your “FYI”

If T-Mobile “CANNOT buy ANY us based cell company,” then how were they able to buy SunCom a couple years back?

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SunCom

Also, wtf are you talking about when you say “satellite spots?”

The idiocy of some people amazes me. Don’t act like you know something when you don’t, Yeesh.

  • Gee

    Yeah I pay for 3G and I am going 42mbps 2011.
No need to pay for home Internet service anymore. Bgr will not write a article about tmobile going to 42 Mbps instead of 21 Mbps.

  • DDD

Tmo is not all that bad. Good prices! Looking forward to this HSPA+

It truly is home for android considering AT&T does not allow off market apps and I hear verizon is switching from google to bing soon. Also we might save a little battery using Tmo HSPA+ over sprints 4g- because of the dual wimax antenna.

$500 is pricey, though it’s still $180 less expensive over 2 years than if you go with a contract plan and get the “subsidy” price.

Even More (2 year contract required)
    500 min talk+text+web: $80/mo
    Cost of phone: $200
    Total over 2 years: $2120

    Even More Plus
    500 min talk+text+web: $60/mo
    Cost of phone: $500
    Total over 2 years: $1940

Please tell me how your Blackberry is so much better than mine? They all have the same specs–just variations on the same theme. Even the Torch is more evolutionary than revolutionary, contrary to their stupid “triple axel” commercials.

I used to be a die-hard Blackberry fan, but I’ve seen the light and have become much disenchanted.
