Rumor: Apple to introduce iMac with iOS support within 60 days

Rumor

ios-imac

According to one of LOOPRumors’ sources, Apple will sometime in the next 60 days host a special event gathering to introduce a refreshed iMac. No ordinary iMac, it is alleged that the new model will feature “a touch interface” meant for running iOS which seems to indicate the presence of a Multi-Touch display. It’s said that this move will not only allow Apple to gauge how consumers react to a touchscreen desktop, but also aide developers with the creation of iOS applications. Anyone think there’s something to this?

    ok so would this be:

*an intel OSX based iMac with an additional ARM processor/emulator?

a strictly ARM based OSX free touchscreen desktop?

touchscreen intel/OSX with an emulator for apps? (dont developers already have something like this?)

    ????

My only worry if this becomes true is that I would worry Apple wouldn’t update the rest of the specs that well, just add this touch and keep the price the same. Other than to clean my monitor I’ve never touched it. Its not arms lengths away. I feel if this is added the consumer would be paying for it no matter up. $1,400-1,600 27 inch i5 or i7 iMac please.

Why not just make a touchscreen imac with os x. The touchscreen windows computers are pretty cool. Maybe a program to switch from osx to ios? But ios as a computers main operating system? Sounds more like competition for chrome os. At the same time, it’s just an ipad on a kickstand with a keyboard.

    Apple… Think about this first.

Its is just another avenue for iAd, way to go Steve…

so basically, Apple is creating an even BIGGER iPad and iPhone/iPod touch.

I REALLY hope this isn’t true. And if it is, i hope Apple does not decide to merge iOS and OSX together, or dump OSX period. I know it sounds crazy, but it is VERY possible. At this point Apple is very focused on their iPhone and iOS that it really wouldn’t surprise me if they dumped one for the other. However, they ARE known as a Computer company, so chances are sort of slim.

So basically, Apple is trying to lock down every product now as much as they can? Next thing you know, you will have to find a way to jailbreak your mac

If this comes true one day, I will sell my Mac and buy a PC.

What do you care what we think? What difference does it make?

Apple said back on D8 that little by little Desktops and laptops will go the way of the Dinosaur and tablets will take over.

    Cleaning the iphone’s screen is
already a pain. Think about cleaning this one.

  • Felipe Dornelas

Only two words: WON’T HAPPEN. That’s it.

    • JakeyBoy

Felipe, it is true they are working on this…guess you didn’t ready the entire reply section…

I bet Jobs will pretend this is an innovation of Apples as well. HP and other computer companies have been making solid touchscreen desktops for years.

    • Felipe Dornelas

These desktops HP sells are horrible to use. Your arms will be in pain after 15 minute use.

And, no. Jobs won’t make this. Remember its dilema: “Apple won’t make a product that it doesn’t consider good enough to use.”

Here’s another rumor I heard: NO.

  • Bravo

That’s the dumbest rumor I’ve heard in a long time. Imagine dumping all of your current apps running in OSX. Any program that’s even considered “professional” would be obsolete?!? Haha. Try photo editing with your fingers, it’s hard enough with a trackpad! I could see a limited use for a touch screen on OSX and it would be cool, but iOS to be a main OS on todays desktop/laptop hardware… not any time soon.

    Rumors are rumors.

  • jayrodathome

where can I get my imac jaikbroken??!

  • estrouse

    Digging the Futurama background!

  • Fattychance

That’s dumb. It won’t be like that.

At least for the iMac, it makes sense to move it to the same platform as the iPad. If it moves to MacPros and MacBooks, that’s another story. Imagine any Adobe product making it through the app approval process as anti-adobe as they are now.

    • Steve Chininis

They are not anti-adobe just anti-flash on mobile, and for good reason.

  • John

    I can see a fingerprint-proof matte finish screen – as a $150 option

  • Steve Chininis

I use a Cintiq and although a normal iMac orientation makes no sense with multi-touch added . . . a screen that can me laid down almost flat would be dandy . . . especially if it has the kind of resolution the new iPhone has, I use my iPad this way all the time. I’d love to see some sort of hybrid laptop/desktop like an iMac with a docking station that you just grab and take mobile.

I believe it, but I don’t want to. I hate to think that perhaps one day people like me, who will always use what we call the GUI, will one day be like people who these days use a CLI…

  • maxpayne79

bummer. When i bitched and moaned that i wanted a touchscreen imac a few years ago, i didn’t mean a useless shiny turd. i hope this rumor is a bunch of nonsense cause seriously, who wants to use the iOS…limited capacity OS inside a socialistically designed user interface…nope. sorry. Say…what’s google up to these days?…ummm…flash support on Android? yup.
